What is Drupal?

Drupal is described by its developers as a community publishing system. However, Drupal is still a content management system, optimized many times throughout the years to be used on the web as social medium. Explained in a non-technical language, Drupal is a platform that takes the preeminent bits of the content management system, forums, wikis, e-commerce and blogging platforms to create an integrated modular system that can be used for communication, publication, and e-commerce.

Still, Drupal is much more than a CMS: it is an application development framework that compels the developers to use a common, structured approach that leads to a modular, interoperable code with a common interface. Finally, Drupal is an open source CMS platform that empowers many applications and websites for free. The reason for this is that there are many diverse communities of users who are active not just in applying, but also building and supporting Drupal.

Overview of Drupal Benefits

Drupal has to offer many functionalities ranging from advanced menu management to user management. With these functionalities, it becomes easier for the users to create a simple, yet advanced website, blog, social networking page etc. With Drupal, a user can create and manage a variety of content types that include videos, polls, texts, blogs statistics, and so on.

Since Drupal is customizable; a user can easily find a vast variety of ideas and functionalities for both developers and designers. With Drupal, companies can benefit from rapid development through deploying the core features and functionalities. When it comes to scalability, reliability, manageability, security, and availability of resources, Drupal comes to par with an enterprise-class CMS.

More than a million websites are using Drupal because of its versatility. The platform has a powerful taxonomy, which assists you when organizing and tagging content. With the help of Drupal taxonomy, you can easily target the keywords you have researched at any moment of time. Additionally, since Drupal is designed for community-based websites, it has a strong user role and access control that allows you to create as many custom user roles as you need. Moreover, the Drupal forum is highly active and is therefore a great place to get all your question answered.

Drupal Position In Our Categories

Since companies have unique business requirements, it is only prudent that they abstain from selecting a one-size-fits-all, ”best” business program. Having said that, it is almost impossible to discover such an app even among recognizable software products. The logical step to do would be to spell out the various major factors that demand consideration such as key features, pricing, skill levels of staff members, company size, etc. After which, you must perform the research through and through. Read some Drupal reviews and check out each of the software products in your list in detail. Such detailed product research can make sure you drop poorly fit applications and buy the system that offers all the features you require business requires in sustaining growth.

Drupal is one of the 3 Content Management Software products

If you are interested in Drupal it could also be sensible to investigate other subcategories of Content Management Software gathered in our database of B2B software reviews.

It is crucial to keep in mind that hardly any app in the Content Management Software category is going to be a perfect solution that can fulfill all the needs of different company types, sizes and industries. It may be a good idea to read a few Drupal Content Management Software reviews first as some software can perform well exclusively in a really small group of applications or be prepared with a really specific industry in mind. Others may function with a goal of being simple and intuitive and consequently lack complex functions welcomed by more experienced users. You can also find apps that support a wide group of customers and offer a powerful feature set, but that in most cases comes at a more significant price of such a software. Be certain that you're aware of your needs so that you buy a software that provides exactly the functionalities you look for.

PROS: Drupal is flexible solution and provides system of modules and you can add them to your site for creating new functions. With commerce module you can add shoping functions and membership module allows you to do member based services and the video module allows you to host video clips. I like that these modules are made of small submodules and this means that you can turn on little bits of the functions. Also, you are allowed to mix the modules and create paid membership site.

CONS: It is complex solution. With Drupal you have lot of flexibilities and ways to do one thing but you can never be sure which method works the best. Also, the codes don’t last forever and this is because Drupal releases major updates which change the functionality of the site.

PROS: I like that I can create various permission levels and to get various users with access to back-end. I like that I can restirct access that some users don’t use. We can keep our content organized and consistent and to help those users who can create page for a single paragraph or change fonts and colors.

CONS: It has a learning curve and the UI doesn’t have drag-and-drop function. Also, we cannot make changes and updates to the sites easily. I wish I could do the whole work by myself.

PROS: What I like most about Drupal is the fact that it is free and open source platform that allows you to better manage your websites across departments. You can edit sites and add new pages according to your needs. It is easy to use and it includes non-profits, blogs and other. It has large community and you can always find answer or help for your problem with Drupal.

CONS: You have to locate dedicated third party to ensure you are implementing the service properly because there is no real support.

PROS: I have tried other CMS solutions like PHP and Joomla but once I figured out how Drupal is working I don’t want to try other CMS platform. After developing several websites I can say that I have gain much experience thanks to this platform. I use D7 and D8 for various projects, D8 has lot of features and this is great benefit for us because it simplifies the whole process.

CONS: It takes some time to do the research and plan for future upgrades.

PROS: Drupal is great tool for building and managing websites. I like that this platform provides in-built GUI based functionality for creating workflow rules, content types and custom content management requirements. The fact is that Drupal has robust built-in user management system and you can easily extend it accroding to your needs. With command line tools you can make operational management tasks like sync’ing device to production, upgrades and others.

CONS: I have found that some management features are not as intuitive as those within the Wordpress.

PROS: Drupal is flexible and scalable solution and it has one of the best open source communities around. It is expansive and reliable solution. It has only the best concepts of PHP framework and adds only important ready-to-use features.

CONS: Flexibility is Drupal’s both pros and cons. Because it allows you to choose between simple and complex projects, this might lead to long set up process and it can be reall pain for small deployments and brochure sites.
