PROS & CONS

What are the best aspects of this product?

I find Babylon a reliable translation tool. I can access it whenever I need it. It doesn't leave a heavy footprint in my PC, so it can just run quietly in the background as I do my work. I think that it's also great how it allows me to customize its environment skin. I've been able to change the colors and even the font properties so that I can work with more ease and comfort. There's a nice feature with a user-managed dictionary too. I've been using this for a long time now, and I still marvel at the benefits that I've been able to get from Babylon. So far, the 7.x version works best for me. It has all of the tools that I need. Of course, there are newer versions available, but this answers to my needs best. From what I've heard, the new version can translate more than a dozen languages, but I don't see myself needing that anytime soon. 7.x works fine for me. It has keyboard shortcuts that I can use. It's not just limited to translating geographical languages too. It also extends to translating jargons from specialized fields such as law and medicine.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

I decided to stick to the older version--bugs are to be expected. However, I would still appreciate it if the developers of Babylon would give me a little more support. I know I'm not the only one who decided not to upgrade to the newer versions. After all, this version works for us, why fix what isn't broken, right? So what exactly are these glitches that I encounter on a daily? I've learned to make-do or found a workaround for these, but here are some issues that I regularly run into. One, it doesn't always pair me with the language that I signed up for. While I find it impressive that they keep a history of my translations, they sometimes mistake my past preferences to my current one. This means that if I chose content to be translated to French last week and I want the content to be translated to Spanish this week, they might still give me definitions for French words even though I don't need them anymore. There are some colloquial terms (popular ones at that) that don't get results from the system too. Plus, with my current version, I can't work with my team online yet. I think that this feature is available in the more recent versions. I also wonder why there are some antivirus programs that flag Babylon as a threat.

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

I can easily get translations right away. This plus my MS word is probably all I need right now.
