What are the best aspects of this product?

SmarTeam inself surprisingly exceeded our last attempt at PDM as well as our document-filled processes. Before, we were using Microsoft Access in tracking our engineering change orders and drawings for the engineering data we had. Through Solid Edge's revision manager, we were able to keep track assemblies, companies, and drawings. This led to more than 40,000 duplicate files sprawled all over our servers.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

Serious problems can be encountered if the SmarTeam, CATIA, and viewer aren't in the same revision plateau. We're using an older SmarTeam at the moment. The latest viewer is from a recent version. For the most part, they're working well (with some occassional crashes).

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

Minimizing process done on paper. Digital revision control and management. Data repository is centralized. Coordination and linking of data from more than one department via business.
