Overview of FOSS-Cloud Benefits

The FOSS-Cloud desktop boasts of an efficient Virtualization Layer that is based on distributed Open Source projects KVM and QEMU. A group of virtual machines work on a computer farm, and assist in controlling the mixed operating system environment of the servers and the clients, which may use a variety of operating systems, including Windows and Linux. Virtual Windows or Linux workstations can be booted from a thin client via PXE, from a Firefox browser plug-in, or launched via Windows, Mac, Linux and smart devices’ operating systems. Authorized users can also run multiple virtual desktops.

FOSS-Cloud-IAM is based on a proxy, which shields direct access to the application in company networks. Only users that are duly authorized to receive access to backend content and applications can facilitate certain tasks.

The FOSS-Cloud platform has an open End-to-End architecture as the foundation for secure access to all web-base business processes. The tool is based on Squid, a widely distributed Open Source Project that allows Single Sign-on on various applications such as email servers, ERP systems and CRM software. As a result, web users do not need to register themselves for each program or service they use.

FOSS-Cloud Printing is a comprehensive cross-operating-system printer management system, which uses the Internet Printing Protocol. IPP is an IETF standard (Internet Engineering Task Force) for printers in networks. FOSS-Cloud Printing can be administered either remotely or locally by means of a web browser, and is based on the Open Source projects SAMBA and CUPS. All these allow the software to be used alongside mixed networks such as Windows, OS/x and Unix & Linux.
