What are the best aspects of this product?
Besides it's user-friendliness and robust data bundle with the software, the best thing about Maptitude is its data conversion engine that allows it to read & write data from & to other GIS platforms. First-rate performance by the tech support team to diagnosing and fixing an occasional application problem, performing user-provided data conversion (e.g.. to convert an ESRI gdb into ESRI shp or Maptitude dbd format) and supply tailor-made elevation data for a project area; all examples of the commitment to their user base.
What aspects are problematic or could work better?
Data parsing functionality could be enhanced somewhat with a utility function that could scan a string data field and return the number of "words" in that string. Then user could write a script that would reliably populate a target field with the expected pieces of a source field (e.g. breaking down complex street address into component parts for discrete fields, allowing alpha-numeric sorts)
What features/services would you like to see in future versions of this product?
I would love Maptitude to add independent ESRI gbd file support (without requiring an installed ArcGIS license).
What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?
1) Created fixed buffer from all County streams to use to crop hi-res (1-meter pixel) land cover data to determine the amount of non-forested riparian buffer adjacent to streams.
2) Enhanced health department records of historic septic system permits to locate permitted sites and tag additional information from tax parcel file to add value to the septic permit record.
3) County and regional analysis of construction activity by year.
4) Heads-up digitizing to correct and enhance planimetric data layers provided by local governments using 3rd party hi-res aerial photography.
