Conceptually Medium is a great idea. Writers post solid stories and are paid by those who read them. Excellent
What aspects are problematic or could work better?
I posted one story on Medium to try it out. Here is what I found: 1) There is no technical support whatever. I wrote five times asking the same questions, I even got the email address of VP Siobhan O'Connor, and sent a personal email to her. No one ever responded to any of my queries. As far as I can see you will receive no help on anything from Medium. 2) The stats they gave me on the "my stats" page, had nothing to do with the reader stats they sent me in a form email at the end of the first week. The two reader stat reports were in wild disagreement. 3) I could never find out how you were supposed to get paid, and in spite of readership reports I have yet to get a dime from Medium. I can't tell whether Medium is amateurish, incompetent, or some kind of grift, but my experience was certainly not the experience their website promises. I would be very interested in learning what other writers have experienced.
