What are the best aspects of this product?
The star among its features is definitely the ability to generate optimum cost queries, I think it adds incomparable value to the product. I am also pleased to have discovered its flexible reporting: it is just incredible how you can create any type of report you need, especially after they added Publisher BI. Our specific interest was to discover a tool for creating Excel sheet reports, and Oracle's macro coding proved to be the right tool to do it. It takes only few steps and smart combinations, and you've got your report!
What aspects are problematic or could work better?
There are some issues, I have to admit that. Introducing a Multi User Development Environment, for instance, was a great idea, but they didn't seem to have understood the difficulty and responsibility of doing it. Deploying incremental release changes is tricky too, sometimes even impossible.
What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?
Currently, I am working on a transformation project, shifting from our old BAAN to Oracle EBS and Oracle BI. The Excel sheets we were producing before are now replaced by accurate dashboards, with a specific Prompts function that diminishes small filter differences between similar reports. Finally, we can rely on reusability, and I think this is very important because our clients are no longer dependent on analyst-written queries. All queries knowledge is stored in the database, available even after an analyst is no longer registered in the system.
