WarehouseBlueprint Review

WarehouseBlueprint
Our score: 8.0 User satisfaction: 94%

What is WarehouseBlueprint?

WarehouseBlueprint is a Sketchup plugin extension that enables users to design warehouse layouts in 3D. It supports SketchUp 8 to version 2020 and works on Windows. It is a simple and easy-to-use platform with intuitive functions for 3D modeling.

Instead of drawing the layout from scratch, this solution allows users to change the dynamic components to the needed specifications instantaneously. Some of the functions that can be configured include pallet racks, conveyors, and mezzanine. These functions are designed to speed up the warehouse layout modeling process. The 3D model can be exported as a .jpeg file.

In addition, this solution also lets users construct a heatmap of the warehouse in 2D or 3D. The 2D warehouse heatmap can be used with Excel. It helps users know whether the stocks are optimally placed. The 3D warehouse heatmap, on the other hand, enables users to visualize the model from various angles. What’s more, users will be able to estimate the distance moved by operators through the platform’s 3D pick path feature.

WarehouseBlueprint offers a range of resources to help users learn how to use the plugin. There are video tutorials and articles available.

Overview of WarehouseBlueprint Benefits

Plugin for SketchUp

WarehouseBlueprint is an extension for SketchUp, a software that enables users to draw 3-dimensional items. With this plugin, you can enjoy the benefits of using SketchUp while speeding up the process of creating a warehouse model.

Configure Components Instantaneously

From pallet racks to mezzanine, there are various components that can be found in a warehouse. Drawing them from scratch can be time-consuming and can slow down the entire warehouse layout modeling process. To help speed up the process, this plugin allows users to alter the dynamic components to the needed specification instead of creating them from scratch.

Warehouse Heatmap

The warehouse heatmap helps users visualize the frequency of the stock-keeping unit (SKU) being picked and understand the current status of their warehouse. It is an essential function and WarehouseBlueprint offers its users this capability. You can generate heatmaps in 2D or 3D. You can generate a 2D warehouse heatmap using Excel and the 3D warehouse blueprint using Sketchup.

Comprehensive KnowledgeBase

The platform provides a plethora of video tutorials and blogs which could help new users get a hang of the product fast. You can find video tutorials on how to use the platform features such as 2D and 3D warehouse heatmap and warehouse dynamic components. The tutorials are free of charge.

What Problems Will WarehouseBlueprint Solve?

Problem #1: RFP/RFQ Submission

David is participating in a RFP. He is bidding for a $2million warehousing business on behalf of the 3PL company he is working in. He has to analyze the data from the client and propose an ideal solution that is attractive and profitable in a short time span. To differentiate from his competitors, he has created a 3D warehouse layout model as well as a short fly-through video clip and presented to the clients. After the entire presentation phase which includes all the competitors sessions, David’s pitch left a deep impression on the client, allowing him to outshine and win the bid.

Problem #2: Redesigning warehouses

Peter needs to re-design his warehouse in order to store more inventory. He is unable to do trial and error as this will be very costly to the operations. CAD drawings lack the visualization capability of the airspace within the building. He uses WarehouseBlueprint to design the layout, and shares this with the stakeholders. There is good clarity, with no ambiguity on the understandings. As a result, Peter is able to store 30% more of the pallets in the warehouse. This results to additional revenue for the company.

Problem #3: Increase operations efficiency

John is tasked to increase the picking productivity of the operations team. Currently, it takes a long time for a picker to complete the pick list order. He travels up and down the aisles all over the warehouse. By generating the heatmap, John is able to show the operations where the fast-moving items are. These items should be at the most accessible areas so that the traveling time and picking time is reduced. This, in turn, increases the number of items being picked within the same duration. Due to this rearrangement (slotting) of the inventory, the picking team is able to improve productivity.
