Appcelerator is an online platform that enables developers to build a native mobile app using JavaScript, a popular scripting language. With Appcelerator, developers can build not only native apps but also mobile APIs and real-time analytics under one roof.
The complete process is divided into four parts. The first part consists of writing the application in JavaScript. This app will run on any device and operating system, thanks to the native feature of Appcelerator. Appcelerator minimizes the time taken to build a native mobile application. This means that apps built with Appcelerator are compatible with platforms like iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
After signing up, you can start the Appcelerator IDE that comes packed with essential tools to build mobile apps. The IDE comes with a three-column layout with customizable panels on either side of the main canvas. The main canvas has two tabs: XML and Design.
The XML feature lets you write all the code while the design tab gives a preview of the application at the same time giving you the ability to drag and drop elements.
A great benefit of Appcelerator is that it enables code reuse. The company claims that about 90% of the code can be reused across different platforms. This is a huge advantage when it comes to building native apps.
The platform also gives access to various APIs through a feature called Hyperloop. The Hyperloop feature gives direct access to iOS and Android APIs using JavaScript. Third party libraries can also be integrated on the top of these APIs to extend the scope of the apps. It also gives the ability to run Java, Objective C or Swift code alongside Titanium code.
