AutoCAD is a 3-dimensional computer-aided design software from Autodesk which is built and developed for product designing and manufacturing planning, building designing, civil infrastructure, and construction. It is a part of Autodesk’s collection of 3D CAD programs used by product development teams, manufacturing facilities, media and entertainment industries, engineers, architects; educators and students; entrepreneurs, non-profits, medical professionals, and including beginners.
Furthermore, AutoCAD is used for making 2D drawings, drafts, and documents, as well as, 3D models and visualizations. Its 2D drawing, drafting, and annotation features include the capability to control the appearance of texts, create dimension styles automatically, link and update data between Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and tables within drawings, and work with dynamic blocks.
Meanwhile, in terms of creating 3D models and visualizations, users will be able to add lighting and materials to their 3D models to achieve a realistic appearance and rendering. They can also control the edges, lightning, and shading in their models.
The software allows users to analyze the interior details of 3D objects. AutoCAD enables them to import data from PDF files so they can collaborate with their teammates as they review their models and drawings. Last but not the least, they can customize the user interface of the software to streamline their tasks and access its functionalities and features much easier.
Show MoreAutoCAD helps users prevent product failures and warranty issues, innovate products and improve their performance, and win more bids by providing them tools and workflows to design and build great products. AutoCAD also has the objective of assisting them to machine, print, inspect, and fabricate quality product parts such as car, wind turbine, and aircraft components. In addition, the program helps them design better buildings, deliver scalable and sustainable infrastructure projects, manage construsction costs, and predict project outcomes.
To do all of this, the 3D CAD program offers 3D modeling and visualization features and functionalities. One of them is the capability to apply different 3D modeling techniques so they can create realistic 3D models of products and their parts. Thus, the program enables them to build 3D wireframes, solids, surfaces, and meshes.
To achieve photorealistic renderings of 3D models, AutoCAD allows them to attach materials to 3D objects, as well as, add lights to scenes. They will be able to control the appearance of the attached materials, the lighting, and the shadows in their models so their teammates and prospective clients can obtain a clearer vision of their conceptual designs.
Another 3D modeling and visualization feature available in AutoCAD is the capability to create section planes. Section planes are used to achieve cross-sectional views of 3D objects. They can modify and move section planes to examine the inner details of 3D objects, enabling them to cut through solids, surfaces, meshes, or regions.
Meanwhile, AutoCAD allows them to control the appearance of texts in their 2D drawings. By adjusting its text settings, users will be able to change font, line spacing, justification, and color. Also, when they change the text settings, all text objects in the drawing that are using the current settings will be automatically updated.
The program also provides users with the capability to configure the dimension settings. This includes controlling the arrow head style, text location, and lateral tolerances. They will be able to create dimension styles and apply them automatically to all the dimensions of the drawing.
AutoCaD has a powerful 2D drawing feature which allows users to link tables within their 2D drawings to data in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. As a result, they will be able to import formulas and calculated data from Microsoft Excel into their tables. When they add rows or columns to a linked spreadsheet, the changes will reflect on the table the spreadsheet is linked to. Likewise, a linked spreadsheet will be updated accordingly once they make changes to a table.
To be able to share and reuse design data from their PDF files, AutoCAD enables users to import data from PDFs into the drawings they created using the program. They will be able to import 2D geometry, TrueType texts, and images into AutoCAD. The program also offers an SHF text recognition tool which allows them to convert text with SHF fonts into a text object.
AutoCAD introduces this PDF import enhancement because SHF texts from PDF files created within AutoCAD are imported into the program as geometries. Since the PDF file format can’t recognize SHF fonts, the imported texts contain lines, arcs, and circles that are not conducive for editing. With its SHF text recognition tool, SHF texts from PDFs that are imported as geometries can now be transformed into text objects, allowing users to edit SHF texts more conveniently.
In addition, userswill be able to import non-Autodesk 3D models into AutoCAD, insert geographic locations and display online maps in their drawings, and attach drawing and image files to current drawings as external references.
Show MoreBearing in mind companies have special business-related requirements, it is logical that they steer clear of subscribing to an all-in-one, “perfect” business program. However, it is difficult to try to stumble on such a software product even among well-known software solutions. The best thing to do should be to list the several critical functions which demand examination such as critical features, plans, skill competence of staff, company size, etc. Thereafter, you must double down on your product research to a full extent. Have a look at some Autodesk AutoCAD evaluations and check out the other applications in your list in detail. Such comprehensive research ascertains you take out mismatched applications and select the one that offers all the aspects your company requires.

PROS: I’m using Autocad for 12 years by now, and I have to say that they have reallyn improved the tool and made it more easier to work with. The layout is similar as on Microsoft Word/Excel so you won’t have any troubles in the beginning. In my opinion, it would be great if you can remember as many short cuts as possible so you can get the work done in less time. If there is something that is unknown you can always search for its training materials through active forums or you can ask guidance from its customer support.
CONS: It takes time to learn the software and you have to be patient. I have a feeling that Autocad is more for architectural drawings but I’d like to see more options for electrical engineering. Also, it slows down the machine.

PROS: I like how simple thos software is and it doesn’t requires inserting coordinates, addresses and time of the day. It’s as same as drafting on a paper but you have an option to undo and save your work every minute. This is my first drafting program I learned to use and I really enjoy working with it for so long.
CONS: The 3D section is very poor, it would be great to have it in the same program when working on a project.

PROS: I like that i can use shortcuts and remap them to any keystroke I want. Annotative text and dimensions are implemented properly and it allows us to place text/dimensions in a various location per scale. I like AutoCad dynamic blocks, and these blocks can redraw themselves through entire dimensions.
CONS: Compared to Microstation, the loading time on the software is extremely slow and even files that have huge amount of linework function slowly. Also, I don’t like its limitation when working with Xrefs. It can be really slow and limited when bringing information into a drawing from Xrefs.

PROS: AutoCad is the first software I have learned, and it is one of the favorite CAD software among the students and architecture professionals. I use lot of Autodesk software for designing and I’m using it to design fast plans or even construction details. I like using Autocad as a drafting tool for my design studies. The interface is intuitive and easy to use.
CONS: I’m using this tool as a complement, I don’t use it as a main tool and I prefer BIM technology instead of this one because I can generate more information in the model and make modifications easily.

PROS: AutoCad is a leader in CAD software, I tried other CAD tools and while they all offer same basic functions the experience that users have with AutoCad makes it to stand out. I like to use the command line so I can type in a lot of functions, also with typing and mousework I can do my work easier and quicker.
CONS: Every year the team behind AutoCad comes with new version that is a bit costly and what I don’t like is that all the functions are same, there is no change within the functionality. Also, whenever new version comes up I have difficulties in finding functions I need.

PROS: What I like most about this tool is the abiliy to reference external AutoCAd drawings so I can work on small parts of entire design instead of on one massive file that runs way to slowly. I also like the ability to create blocks and creating standard symbol like logo/arrow or something to bring into our drawing and withiout the need to re-draw it again. Also, I like that various colors of lines correspond to various line weights when printed.
CONS: The program crashes frequently and troubleshooting problems on AC can be difficult. It can be really hard to create hatch because the tool has some issues.
