What are the best aspects of this product?

Atlassian JIRA flaunts a very robust set of permission settings so that we can build work teams with the specified access levels to control, the degree of information available and what they are authorized to do with that information.

JIRA is a tool that offers superb customization options, almost anything can be modified using a wide selection of pre-installed tools or downloadable add ons. This is perfect if businesses want to meet various requirements for metrics and charts the stakeholders have set. Modifiable workflow enables us to have separate life cycles for each task.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

While JIRA is customizable, the platform demands a certain amount of effort to extend its data schema with new attributes.

JIRA does not offer appealing ways to visualize data. At times, explaining all data points of the lifecycle can be difficult , especially when it needs to be done "yesterday" or "abruptly". So we have to resort to utilizing Labels, Components, Fix Versions etc., as anything but what it says just to put everything into the required model of implementation.

It's quite difficult to master. I needed a few months to start feeling comfortable with the administration settings.

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

In a very a huge environment that has various types of work and several workflows with a lot of separation of responsibility, Atlasssian JIRA is a great tool to have. It is also quite effective for task management and bug tracking.
