PhpStorm Review

PROS: Autocomplete with PhpStorm means that we can code a lot quicker without committing as much syntax error. FTP client and git are some of the built-in features that make coding easier for us. Plus, there's the plugin system to add more functionality if needed. The IDE is free for students and I myself completed a lot of projects through this program when I was still in school. Moreover, it's a cross-platform software so I can use it on either Linux or Windows OS without any change in the functionality and UI.

CONS: Before you can use it, you must have the Java installed first.

PROS: The features I'm most fond of are the autocomplete and auto-sync w/ FTP functions and its support for a variety of frameworks such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Symfony. There are also different languages that this IDE works with like Javascript, Emmet, CSS, and HTML5. We also use PHPStorm's debugging and refactoring features like Live Edit which allows us to see the changes instantly.

CONS: It's written in Java, hence the sluggish loading times.

PROS: The syntax highlighter's accuracy is amazing. It allows me to save a lot of time cross-checking on the syntax I've written. And out of every IDE I've ever used, I can say that PhpStorm has the best auto-completion feature. That feature is useful for speeding up our workflow by assisting us in completing basic programming structures. Also, the user interface is pretty slick with intuitive shortcuts for frequently used buttons. Another great perk of using PhpStorm is that it allows us to debug easily. Just one click and the debugger is all set up.

CONS: I don't like how it eats a lot of my PC's resources. If you're gonna try it and you have a low-capacity computer, you may experience lags and freezes.

PROS: I like a lot of features but I'll only list a few. For one, the syntax highlighter is on a league of its own among other IDEs. Search and navigation functionalities are impressive too. Large-scale projects are easier to manage because we only need a few clicks to navigate through variables, functions, or methods regardless of the number of files involved.

CONS: The price is pretty high but I believe the features totally compensate for it.

PROS: It's one of the best IDE for PHP development in the market that supports frameworks like CakePHP and Laravel. It has framework-specific syntax highlighter and IntelliSense too which makes it ideal for our work. Also, we can easily test our code through PhpStorm because of the mock server feature as well as the ability to link to GIT and to the database.

CONS: I don't have much to say when it comes to dislikes because out of all the IDEs I've tried, this one is the best. Except for probably improved fonts for the Windows version, I can't think of any other suggestion.

PROS: One of the highlight features of PhpStorm for me is its capability to edit multiple files from a single UI. There's a terminal too that allows us to run command line straight from the program and you can extend the IDE's functionality by adding plugins. Another thing I'm pretty impressed of is the JetBrains' support team. They have a feature called open issue tracker which is always up to date to make users aware of the progress of the new features that will be added on future updates of this code editor. Issue tracker also keeps tabs of reported bugs and allows users to request for new features. And last but not least, there are guides and materials available that we can use as a reference.

CONS: I've been using this for over 3 years now and I don't think I've run into major problems up until now.

PROS: First of all, PhpStorm knows when you are working with a PHP7 or a PHP5 project. This means that I don't have to make any necessary configurations just to ensure that I'm working with the proper version. I personally don't like the PHP language much and if I can use other language, I would. However, there are times when I must integrate a server-side code and PHP is the most efficient way to do that. So for those times, I use PhpStorm.

CONS: Quite pricey to be honest, but it's definitely worth it. This IDE can save a lot of time in the long run compared to the free counterparts in the market.

PROS: There's a lot more features than I can use for my everyday coding, which is amazing. And if they're still not enough, then there's the plugin function which adds more feature if needed. Essentially, this IDE helps me in understanding and making good codes.

CONS: PhpStorm uses a lot of my system's resources. Also, the indexing function is quite slow sometimes. I think part of the reason for these drawbacks is because it uses the Java core. But, the advantage of using such architecture is that it makes the IDE more portable. Fairtrade, I guess.

PROS: Prior to PhpStorm, I've been struggling to find a perfect IDE for my projects. So when I discovered this and found out that it allows fast debugging, has an amazing code completion feature, and supports JavaScript and HTML for a webpage, I'm in.

CONS: I'm not using PhpStorm for every web-related review or development because I use WebStorm for that. It's a lot faster.

PROS: I like how easy it is to use and that it supports other languages such as jQuery, React, and Angular.js. Also, PHPstorm isn't strictly for PHP language only because I use it for JavaScript and CSS as well. I like the syntax highlighter function too because it offers suggestions for improving that highlighted part of the code. JetBrains, the developer of PHPStorm, creates products that are worth their price tags because of their ease-of-use and the increase in productivity they bring to users.

CONS: It does use a lot of memory and sometimes takes a lot of time to load. But it's not too bad cause I never experienced a crash yet. Also, it's packed with amazing features but automatic migrations aren't one of them.

PROS: The name PhpStorm really delivers because it's a complete package for development in the PHP language. Aside from that, it also gives coding assistance to other web-related languages like CSS, HTML, JS, and SQL. This results in a faster workflow because I don't have to juggle multiple IDE. It's also capable of deep and project-wide searches in case you need to find a piece of function, phrase, or code. This is both impressive and really useful for large-scale projects with hundreds of files. It makes code refactoring and inspection easier too. And finally, it's an intelligent IDE that provides smart code completion, code highlighting, and other function that makes my work fun and easier.

CONS: The vendor, JetBrains is an amazing group of developers and just like their other product, I don't have any complaint.

PROS: I'll start by appreciating the PHPStorm's free one-year subscription offer to students. Then there are the features that make coding faster and easier, such as the short commands for creating div elements and JS functions. There are the syntax suggestion and reference features as well. Also, PHPStorm has built-in GitHub-related functionalities like performing git functions and commands straight from the app.

CONS: This is a system-heavy software so it takes a while to load and can sometimes cause lags.

PROS: It's very assistive! Like when I'm writing code, it shows me a list of the available functions I could use. It also displays the parameters required for those functions and what type of data they accept.

CONS: Nothing. Haven't found any yet.

PROS: My favorite PhpStorm features are the support for code refactoring, checking for errors, and its capability to inspect my work as I'm typing it. It allows me to quickly find errors and fix them. Debugging is also easy to configure so I can easily get into hunting the bugs that are in my code; very useful. Not only that, but this coding software is also good for providing support for Javascript, CSS, and HTML - the trinity of web app development. Thanks to that, I don't have to switch between different IDEs to handle each of them.

CONS: If newbie users want to request a feature, it might be hard for them since it has to be filed on your track. The features are also pretty slow to be added to the software.

PROS: I'm liking the smart code completion feature cause it's particularly helpful to my work. The software has a good understanding of the PHP language and uses that to make code completion suggestions. Another feature that's very useful to my work is the word expansion. This one may not be as deep as code completion but having it complete a word I'm currently typing based on the previously used words is amazing. Another one is the support for frameworks like symphony, magento, and laravel. Coding through framework instead of using the native language is becoming popular so this is very helpful.

CONS: It's resource-heavy and takes a lot of space in the hard drive (over 200mb). It uses a lot of RAM and CPU which makes it not fit for lower-end computers like those running on dual cores with 2gb of RAM. And being a developer, it's frustrating when it starts hanging in the middle of my coding process.

PROS: It has so many cool integrated features such as Databases, Git, autocomplete, Docker, logic tracing, and an amazing project view. It'll take me ages again if I have to find another similar program that fits perfectly with my development needs.

CONS: At times, it feels that PhpStorm has so many amazing features that if I ever find the need to use a different IDE, I'd be hard pressed cause I'd be too used to them.

PROS: I made PHPStorm my main IDE because compared to the others I'm using, this one performs the best. There are a lot of good features including code navigation, misspelling corrections, and code completion. Thanks to these, I'm can learn many things about code performance and style, as well as the PSR recommendation. Another great function of PHPStorm is that it makes sure that when I change things up, the important parts of my code, like variable names, won't break. Combine that with the IDE's capability to detect typos and finding pieces of codes that haven't been used, the result is that I can refactor more efficiently and confidently.

CONS: The main issue I'm facing PHPStorm with is that if you're trying to code through remote ssh mount, it's seriously slow. In fact, I can't even use some of the integrated features like code navigation and git. So if this is what you're going for, i.e. code through remote ssh mount, then it's better to use Sublime Text.
