Skype is full of options to comunicate with business partners or family members long distance, While you can't wnjoy full screen live chat or video calls in countries with low internet speeds, it makes for a good tool for chat or sending data.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

Normally, it uses a lot of RAM of your PC. It is also really complicated to use if you are using it on a Linux-run computer, not to mention some functions like chat are not available.
