What are the best aspects of this product?
The product is very straight forward, it's easy to use and there's a lack of useless features, or unnecessary steps. The program is streamlined, for both front of house and back of house. It fulfills a lot of features that are necessary in the restaurant workplace while not feeling barebones.
Support for the product is stellar as well. They always respond with 24 hours and work with us until the problem is fixed. If the problem isn't fixed, they provide a suitable workaround that allows us to move forward. It has been great to actually talk to a human and not have to go through a help-tree on a FAQ that only vaguely answers the questions we have.
What aspects are problematic or could work better?
The checkout/close-out feels unnecessarily complicated. The verbage is odd, and it's over the top for 99% of those using the program. Servers/bartenders/etc. don't need to know every detail of their check out, and the cash drawer system feels convoluted. For all the streamlining that this program has typically, this aspect of Toast feels like a bunch of tangled wires.
The reporting is something to be desired. The categories in which it shows you are highly uncustomizable. The report they give you is the report you get. It feels clunky trying to seek out specific details (like, for example, which servers have the most Comp mistakes). And to pull a report longer than a few days is arduous and very buggy. If I want to get a spreadsheet on the sales for, say, the month of February, it might take 5-10 minutes load the report, or it might not load at all.
What features/services would you like to see in future versions of this product?
Tip-out. Tip-out, tip-out, tip-out. Currently we can only set a 6% amount that simply tells servers what 6% of their sales are. It'd be great to be able to run a tip-out that set's math for the servers for us to pull from their checkout when going through their end of shift stuff.
There is currently no way to hold firing items. More customization with verbage on online orders.
Being able to see how long an item has been waiting (i.e. being able to see when a server sent in a dinner or drink order on the screen).
Better reporting.
Easier checkout.
