Leverage RFID Asset Tracking Technologies

The asset tracking solution utilizes advanced asset tracking technologies and methods, and one of them is the RFID or Radio-Frequency Identification Technology. RFID is an asset tracking technology that uses radio waves to transmit data embedded on tags or labels assigned to assets. A reader also known as interrogator captures the radio waves from the tags or labels and converts the data they are transmitting to a more usable information. Unlike barcode scanning wherein the tags or labels need to be pointed directly to the barcode reader, RFID can capture data without the need to align the tag or label with the RFID reader, allowing the scanning and reading of data outside the line-of-sight of the reader.

RFID tags or labels are classified into two: active and passive RFID tags or labels. An active RFID tag is comprised of a built-in power source, allowing it to transmit data at all times. Also, active RFID tags have longer read distances. On the other hand, an passive RFID tag doesn’t have a built-in power source; rather the coiled RFID antenna within the the tag is energized by radio waves coming from the RFID reader. This enables the tag to form electromagnetic fields and transmit the embedded information to the reader.
