What is Wrike?

Wrike is an online project management software that has reaped numerous awards for its speed, simplicity, efficiency, and flexibility. Managing projects is a complicated process that involves varied tasks and workflows as well as multifunctional groups. Wrike brings them all together in one platform that lets you connect team members and prioritize, schedule, and collaborate to get work done and see the progress of projects in real time. With its intuitive features and powerful capabilities, Wrike has been the favorite project management platform of small businesses as well as large companies looking to simplify their processes and workflows.

Wrike Resource is an add-on to the core project management platform. It offers a robust solution for optimizing the utilization of resources, letting you understand in detail the effort required for a task and choosing the right person to handle it. As such, the resource management software gives you capabilities to balance workloads, schedule and distribute tasks, get visibility into team assignments and activities, and increase employee productivity. It enables you to easily visualize who is doing what, and look into each member’s load and schedules, and determine the time spent on each task. These give you better insights into the availability of team members to optimize resources and reduce instances of conflicts.

Overview of Wrike Benefits

Balanced workload

Wrike Resource helps you utilize resources according to the capabilities and work schedules of your team members, keeping them working at an optimal and steady pace. A workload that is balanced results in a tighter and well-coordinated team and translates to better performance. With complete visibility on the availability and workload of each team member, you’ll be able to see who is doing what task, determine who are overloaded, and who are ready to take more assignments. The resource allocation solution lets you view individual work hours and allocate tasks equally among team members based on strengths, capacity, and availability. It helps foster work collaboration, eliminate employee burnout, and speed up project processes.

Easily prioritize projects

Wrike’s main project management platform with its array of tools and capabilities already makes it easy to track project progress by the team and each member. Wrike Resource further boosts this capability by assigning and matching the right resources vis-à-vis the right projects. With its timeline tools, you are able to take in and intuitively allocate urgent tasks, simplify your planning, increase team productivity, and prevent burnouts to meet project objectives. In addition, with a drag-and-drop interface, you can swiftly move, adjust, or add tasks based on individual schedules and capacity. It lets you divide working hours across the team and its members to maximize individual strengths and efficiencies.

Get insights on resource allocation

Data is the foundation of decision-making. Through its reporting and viewing tools, Wrike Resource lets you easily gauge project and team performance. You’ll be able to assess work hours spent and effort put into a task and get better insights and allow you to effect necessary improvements. You can customize tables, charts, and reports to drill down on and understand the progress of your team and status of projects in order to come up with key insights that you can apply for future planning, projects, and strategies.

Pros: There are lot of helpful features within Wrike starting from Gantt chart- that helps you with complex projects that require different tasks or phases in order to be completed, to Folders & Projects- Organization that helps you to manage projects from different angles like: customer-driven, sales-driven, marketing-driven and it allows you to manipulate and move projects into various folders. The Tasks feature allows you to assign the tasks to different people within the team. There is even an option for duplicating folders with their tasks

Cons: I’d like to create dependencies between projects. In addition, when I want to change a tasks’ deadline it automatically changes the subtasks’ deadline and whenever I want to push some things forward/backward with Gantt chart I need to go into each subtask to adjust them as well. Also, the duration can be complicated especially when we have several tasks and we are not sure about the actual time on a given day whether it is enough or not.

Pros: A very powerful project management tool with some good features

Cons: Be careful with Wrike - after being a customer for 2 years they massively increased our renewal price. It's now totally unaffordable and we're having to move to an alternative, which is especially annoying after the amount of time it took to train our staff in Wrike.
