What is BasicSafe?

BasicSafe bills itself as a one-stop-shop cloud system that addresses the time-consuming tasks in EHS with focus on high-risk industries such as construction, food production, manufacturing and wood products. Managers running basic or comprehensive health and safety program will find the software easy to use and scalable to their business size at price points based on tailored quotation. From paperwork to storing important files securely in a centralized location, the software helps to streamline, among others, key EHS processes such as training, incident reporting, auditing and safety analysis.

The system consists of more than ten modules that can be purchased separately or bundled as a suite. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) has built-in forms and templates that help you digitize and access records from any net-connected device. Similarly, Lockout Tagout features templates and allows you to link procedures to JSA or Training with one click. Monitoring and processing incidents and safety issues are also made simple with Incident Reporting & Investigation, which can be set to auto-generate OSHA 300 and 301 forms.

Meanwhile, Training Management lets you customize EHS training around employee groups and using multiple validation methods. Employees can also access documents online from any device easily with Policies and Procedures. You would also find Process Safety Management helpful to manage escalation and comply with OSHA’s 14 PSM elements, from employee participation and operating procedures to emergency planning and compliance audits.

Other key BasicSafe features include tools for task assignments and reminders, compliance deadline calendar and permit management.

BasicSafe integrates with HR and payroll systems via CSV import. It supports iOS and Android devices.

Overview of BasicSafe Benefits

Well-designed architecture

The modules are built around key EHS areas and user needs, mainly managers dealing with workplace safety in high-risk industries. The modules are organized in a way meaningful to EHS managers. You have one for training, another for safety analysis, yet another for emergency procedures. You can upload policies and procedures in one module and share their data across modules so everyone is using the same reference materials. With a few clicks, you can generate built-in templates and forms for OSHA reporting and compliance. The features are tailored to specific industries, from wood products to manufacturing and construction to chemicals. There is even a platform designed for government.

Paperless and accessible from any platform

You can access your data, files and BasicSafe tools from a desktop or mobile device anywhere and anytime you are net-connected. This allows you to go paperless, digitizing important documents and putting them in a centralized location that managers and employees can access easily. Likewise, files can be shared and migrated into BasicSafe’s modules. Data integrity and file versions are kept consistent, ensuring managers and employees are on the same page.

Time-consuming paperwork is greatly reduced and EHS compliance is nurtured across the organization.

Managers can focus on their core work

Managers in manufacturing, construction and other high-risk industries often deal with a complex EHS program that eats up a sizeable chunk of their productive time. Often, time is lost in recurring paperwork and tasks that can be automated. The BasicSafe modules address this problem, streamlining if not automating altogether key EHS processes such as safety analysis, shutdown procedures, incident reporting and training. The vendor claims their customers save 90% of their time on managing EHS.

Pick the tools you need

Not all EHS programs are the same. Some companies may require a suite of modules to cover their entire EHS, while others may want to focus on a set of key processes only. BasicSafe pricing is designed around this scenario, giving you options to pick and match features that you only want. It has over ten modules with each one dealing with a key EHS process including job safety analysis, incident reporting, emergency lockdown procedures and training.

Years of experience

Fifteen years in the EHS business has allowed the vendor to build significant experience in managing EHS programs from high-risk industries. It claims to manage over 900 facilities with over 67,000 jobs covered by its system. It has worked with established clients as well in the manufacturing, wood product, construction and chemical sectors.

What Problems Will BasicSafe Solve?

Problem #1: Time-consuming paperwork in EHS

Solution: A very common issue companies deal with is an abundance of paperwork. This is time-consuming to manage, difficult to track, and not readily available to employees. BasicSafe can take an EHS program paperless and is available on any platform with a mobile connection and some without. This makes managing the program much faster and easier, as well as engages employees in a way that paper and spreadsheets just cannot.

Problem #2: Difficulty in tracking progress

Solution: Many companies have good programs and just need a better way to manage what they have already developed. BasicSafe offers the ability to transfer existing files and data into the different tools that it offers so that companies have easy access to the same data and can measure the progress of their programs much more efficiently.
