Fishbowl Review

Fishbowl
Our score: 9.0 User satisfaction: 98%

What is Fishbowl?

Fishbowl is a complete manufacturing and inventory management software that helps you oversee production and track assets. To that end, it works with multiple warehouses. Because of this, you have real-time updates regarding stock levels of materials in all of your locations. Thus, it ensures that you have enough supplies and that your equipment and tools are all in working order. This way, manufacturing always runs smoothly, making the solution ideal for businesses of any size.

Apart from its manufacturing and asset management modules, Fishbowl has other components. For example, it has a shipping module, which connects you with your shipping partners. Because of this, it would be easier for you to dispatch customers’ orders and track them until delivery.

You can also tailor Fishbowl to your processes. It is possible because it has custom fields in different parts of the interface. On top of that, the platform accepts custom report requests in case you cannot find the report you need among over 100 options.

In case you need a sales and payment processing system, Fishbowl has a checkout offering that gives you retail software and hardware. With this, you can receive payments and process orders smoothly, as the sales information is sent directly to your core Fishbowl platform.

Furthermore, Fishbowl integrates with third-party solutions. In fact, it has seamless integration with QuickBooks and is recognized as a Gold Developer by Intuit. It also supports another accounting system, which is Xero. Plus, it can interface with other kinds of software such as CRM, merchant services, and payment gateways.

This functionality extends to mobile devices, too, like mobile scanners and retail and pocket scanners.

Pricing starts from $4,395 for a one-time fee and based on the number of user licenses you require.

Overview of Fishbowl Benefits

Expansive Warehouse and Location Visibility

If you have two, three, or more warehouses and locations, you can keep up with what is happening in them using Fishbowl. That is because the solution centralizes inventory tracking. This way, you can see which storage places have healthy numbers of stocks from your office. And in case you find that some locations have low stock levels of any item, you can initiate the restocking process immediately. As a result, you can keep the production workflow running smoothly around the clock.

Real-time Inventory Management

When you need to do in-depth inventory management, you can count on Fishbowl as well. With this solution, not only can you track items in your warehouse, you can also track packages on their way to customers.

Apart from that, Fishbowl helps you organize products automatically. Thus, you can easily find the merchandise or part you are searching for.

And to streamline reorder, Fishbowl has a reorder automation configuration. You can modify this to suit your needs so that the system sends reorders on your behalf when stocks fall below acceptable amounts.

Time Savings with Production Automation

From work orders and bill of materials (BOM) to production stages, Fishbowl helps with its automation capabilities. As soon as you create a work order, it sends it to the next stage of the work process to move the job along. When it comes to bill of materials, the platform can produce and accomplish as many as you need. You can even save a BOM to expedite future processes.

With regard to the production stages, Fishbowl lets you create multilevel work orders. You can schedule these to make certain that your production staff completes them in order. What’s more, you can assign tasks to workers, holding them accountable for their responsibilities.

Streamlined Order Processing and Shipping

Fishbowl integrates with shopping carts and various ecommerce platforms. This sends a customer’s order to the platform for immediate processing. From there, you can save sales orders, which would hasten order processing the next time clients order the same set of items.

When all the items are ready and packed, you can contact your shipping partner from Fishbowl’s interface. The application integrates with various shipping solutions, letting you shorten the time between fulfillment and dispatch.

Operational Insights

With Fishbowl, you can see who among your employees are performing best. By identifying model members of the organization, you can set them up as benchmarks others have to follow. Thus, they can be motivated to do their best at work.

Additionally, the warehouse and asset management solution shows you which of your products are popular among customers. Once you identify them, you can use this information to strengthen your marketing strategies.

Custom Reports

Fishbowl has more than 100 options for reports, which updates you on the state of your business. However, if you do not find the exact report that you are looking for, you can request for a custom one. With this, you can generate it easily the next time you need particular information.

Seamless QuickBooks Integration

Though Fishbowl is a standalone software, it is built for tight integration with QuickBooks. Whether you have a desktop or an online version, you can synchronize your inventory files with your accounting records. This means that whatever edits you made in your inventory, it would reflect on the accounting software instantly. Because of this, you can save time and be confident there are no double entries or any other kind of error.

Synchronization with Other Fishbowl Products

Fishbowl has additional products that you can add to the core solutions. These are modules for payroll and time management, shipping, barcode scanning, POS, barcode scanning, and server hosting and data security. Additionally, the platform has a module that provides access to the desktop software when you are on mobile. When these are integrated, they further streamline the movement of data between various business units. For example, the POS solution can send new orders to the warehouse and manufacturing applications. This way, you can prevent errors in order quantities and units.

Other Integrations

Fishbowl’s capabilities are extensible. Apart from accounting software, ecommerce sites, and shipping providers, Fishbowl can integrate with other kinds of applications. For example, it supports integration with CRM solutions. With this, you can better nurture your relationships with clients. Additionally, Fishbowl interfaces with payment gateway solutions. Because of this, you can process payments securely, ensuring your and your customers’ security.

Adaptable Interface

Fishbowl is a truly customizable platform. This can be seen in its support for custom fields, which you can add in different parts of the interface. Because of this, you can tailor the solution fully to your needs.

What Problems Will Fishbowl Solve?

Problem #1: Inventory tracking using Excel

Solution: Inventory management is arduous especially using Excel. It is time-consuming and is most prone to errors. It cannot even track who made which changes at what time, thereby users cannot be held accountable when mistakes happen. Furthermore, manual edit is required whenever the business makes a sale or receives an order.

These can all change with Fishbowl. The solution can import information from CSV files, as long as they are formatted correctly. Users can then organize customers under umbrellas. They can arrange items in product trees and categories as well.

And whenever a sale is made, Fishbowl generates a sales order in the system, which can then be fulfilled in a timely manner. And the company can set up automatic reorder points for all of their items, along with default vendors. So, when a product quantity gets low, a purchase order will be automatically created with the appropriate quantity, vendor, and other information already entered on it.

Barcode scanning and additional tools reduce the risk of data entry errors and keep the company’s inventory records accurate and up to date. Also, granular user rights ensure only authorized personnel are able to access and change sensitive data, and it’s possible to audit parts of the software and see who made changes at specific times.

Problem #2: Basic warehouse and manufacturing management

Solution: A business relies on QuickBooks for their accounting needs but finds that it does not have the advanced tools they require for comprehensive inventory management. Neither does it have the features for managing work orders, creating bill of materials, printing new barcodes, and accessing different costing methods. On top of that, it does not have a kitting feature nor can it process Return Merchandise Authorizations.

But when they start using Fishbowl and integrate it with the accounting platform, they find that it contains all of the features they have been missing. It lets them generate work orders and bills of materials for simple assembly, multistage assembly, disassembly, repair, and replacement manufacturing jobs.

Fishbowl can even generate reports and print many kinds of barcodes, and it can use LIFO, FIFO, Average, and Standard costing methods. Kits, RMAs, and transfer orders are available in the solution, as are numerous tracking methods, such as lot numbers, serial numbers, expiration dates, revision levels, and custom criteria.

Moreover, the software has variable pricing and discounts on products via percent discounts, specific dollar amounts off, group pricing, and cost-plus pricing. In addition, Fishbowl eliminates the need for double data entry because it can be scheduled to export data to QuickBooks as frequently as the company requires, so no one has to do it manually.

Problem #3: Adding a new warehouse

Solution: A growing business is opening a second warehouse to store goods and isn’t sure how to differentiate the goods stored in that warehouse from their first one. By using Fishbowl, they are able to set up two different location groups to house their goods under. Each warehouse can be organized into a separate location group with lots of smaller locations under it, such as the receiving areas, shop floors, aisles, shelves, and bins. This way, they can assign space to parts, products, and equipment so that nothing gets lost, and they can track inventory levels on a per-location basis. If they are in danger of running out of a product at one warehouse and they have a surplus at the other, they can use a transfer order to move items between warehouses without making a sale. Fishbowl can also be used to set up auto-reorder points on products at each warehouse, calculate each one’s inventory turnover ratio, and track seasonal trends so that they know how best to manage their inventory at both warehouses rather than trying a one-size-fits-all approach. When it comes time to open a third, fourth, or hundredth warehouse, they can follow the same steps to add it to their inventory management system in Fishbowl.

Fishbowl Position In Our Categories

Knowing that companies have distinct business requirements, it is practical that they steer clear of choosing an all-encompassing, ”best” business application. Be that as it may, it would be hard to pinpoint such an app even among sought-after software products. The clever step to do would be to take note of the different chief factors that call for a investigation such as key features, packages, technical skill levels of staff, organizational size, etc. Then, you should do the research fully. Have a look at these Fishbowl review articles and look over each of the software options in your list in detail. Such all-encompassing product research ensures you take out ill-fitting applications and pay for the system that includes all the aspects your business requires in growing the business.

Position of Fishbowl in our main categories:

TOP 10

Fishbowl is one of the top 10 Distribution Software products

TOP 20

Fishbowl is one of the 20 Warehouse Management Software products

Organizations have diverse wants and requirements and no software application can be perfect in such a condition. It is pointless to try to find an ideal out-of-the-box software app that fulfills all your business needs. The wise thing to do would be to modify the solution for your unique needs, employee skill levels, budget, and other aspects. For these reasons, do not rush and pay for well-publicized trendy applications. Though these may be widely used, they may not be the perfect fit for your unique requirements. Do your groundwork, investigate each short-listed platform in detail, read a few Fishbowl Inventory Management Software reviews, speak to the vendor for explanations, and finally choose the application that provides what you need.

PROS: 12 months in and Fishbowl has failed to get the product fully operational at this point so it is difficult to see the best aspects.

CONS: The software as a whole is problematic and should never have been used for our setup. Fishbowl is met for a very simple small business. We were convinced by Fishbowl that they would customize their software to meet our complex needs. Over the last 12 months we have seen failures in the Sales Team to understand what that commitment meant, failures in their development team not actually putting time into the project, and failures in leadership at the company. We have yet to see a true success anywhere with Fishbowl. Considering the need for added head count, the 8 months in delays by fishbowl, and the lost revenue this setup is easily costing more than 10 times what was presented to us. Not happy.

PROS: The support team was super helpful. They helped us learn how to use it and when we encounter problems, they assist us immediately. They are pretty much experts on the program, so they never wasted time in resolving issues. I've been using it for three years and the updates and perks are endless. We were also able to move our business online as it integrates well with our shopping cart. It is also very easy and smooth to use. There were no system lags. The process is just seamless. The mapping options also saved us a lot of time in customizing what we want the system to do.

CONS: Customization is very limited in the UI. I hope they improve this.
