GIMP is a free, open-source image editing platform. The program packs an array of professional-quality features which can genuinely rival Adobes Photoshop capabilities. Its remarkable montage features allow the user to easily fine tune photos/images and create artwork from scratch. The selection includes noise reduction, cropping, automatic image enhancement tools, color adjustment tools, gradients, customizable brushes, and much more.
GIMP also provides plenty of features for the advanced user including filters, Bezier curves, layer masks, and an animation package. Its support for pre-installed or downloadable plugins is also commendable. Overall, the software is a force to reckon with among the best free image editing applications, and the ideal package for geek photographers who like to keep their editing space under control.
Show MoreGIMP is a cross-platform image editing solution that leads the arena of similar open source programs. It gives the user the freedom to manipulate its source code and distribute the changes. The application is 100% free, but that doesn’t mean it compromises on its features. It packs a punch in terms of quality features that make it the best free alternative to popular commercial-grade tools like Adobe Photoshop. GIMP provides all the sophisticated tools to the delight of photographers, graphic designers, and illustrators looking for the most convenient way to get the job done.
The program features a standard interface that conforms to the high-end graphics program layout. The GU interface is crafted to be cleaner and drive improved performance. Upon closer examination, you will notice the UI is divided into three parts. There is the main editing area, toolbox, and layer, paths, undo, and channels. The image tabs display vital image thumbnails, unlike in other programs which just display the name.
Although GIMP lacks the depth of the commercial photo editing programs, it provides all the essential editing features, commands, and tools. In addition, the software goes beyond the basics to provide some advanced editing tools like channel manipulation. Its “open as layers” command is a noteworthy feature which enables users to map an image into the layer of another.
Besides being an open source program, GIMP is easily extensible. It allows the user to enhance productivity via many customization options and its support for third-party plugins. Its active community of developers has engineered a wide array of plugins.
Show MoreBecause companies have special business-related wants, it is rational that they steer clear of picking a one-size-fits-all, ”best” business application. Just the same, it is difficult to stumble on such a software solution even among sought-after software solutions. The right step to undertake can be to narrow down the numerous critical aspects that demand careful thought including key features, pricing, technical skill capability of staff members, business size, etc. After which, you should conduct the research thoroughly. Browse through some of these GIMP evaluations and explore the other software systems in your list more closely. Such all-encompassing research makes sure you steer clear of unsuitable apps and choose the system which delivers all the aspects your business requires.

Organizations have unique wants and requirements and no software solution can be ideal in such a situation. It is pointless to try to find a perfect off-the-shelf software app that meets all your business requirements. The intelligent thing to do would be to modify the system for your specific requirements, employee skill levels, finances, and other factors. For these reasons, do not hurry and invest in well-publicized popular applications. Though these may be widely used, they may not be the ideal fit for your unique wants. Do your research, check out each short-listed platform in detail, read a few GIMP Graphic Design Software reviews, contact the maker for clarifications, and finally select the product that presents what you want.

PROS: Aside from the fact that it is free, I like how many functions I have at my disposal when it comes to photo editing. I am impressed with the tools it has for image refinement, as well as how great it is at handling layers. Another thing that I like is how easy it is to make gifs with this program. I also appreciate the scaler feature and how it makes scaling an image to monitor size an easier process. The ease of image exporting is also impressive, especially because you can export it in different file formats like PSD, JPG, and TIFF.
CONS: This program would really be improved if they supported a CMYK color profile. Because of this lack of support, it's hard to find a printer that can produce a print that matches your output. This is because almost all printing companies use a CMYK profile. Adding that to future versions of this program would be an immense help.

PROS: I like a number of things about this free software. It has an intuitive interface and I think even newbies will be able to get the hang of using it effectively and efficiently in just a matter of days. I also appreciate the lightness of this program. If you're planning to install it on your computer, you don't have to worry about specifications since this doesn't require much. The tools are handy, I'm specifically fond of its color selection that has made work much easier.
CONS: Their customer support needs a lot of improvement. If I remember correctly, we never even received a response from their customer support team when we approached them about an issue we encountered a couple of months ago. If they don't improve this part of their service, I think it will have a really negative effect and make users lose trust in them.

PROS: I think the most impressive thing about this program is that it is free and but loaded with useful tools and features. Aside from being able to use this at no cost, I also like that it is light and doesn't take up much of your computer's processing speed. I also appreciate the fact the user interface is so intuitive that it will probably take beginners just a few days before completely getting the hang of it. I found it to be user-friendly and a great addition to the tools we use daily at work.
CONS: The biggest thing that they can improve on is the customer support team. We had a tough time with their customer support team the last time we had an issue, and I don't think we were given a solution to our problem. If they improve the service that their customer service team provides, I think it would result in more satisfied users.

PROS: I like that it is free and accessible on the web anytime. Another plus factor is that it has all the features and functionality that you get from Photoshop. I can edit images whenever and wherever as long as there's a net connection, love that I can tweak the interface to my liking.
CONS: They could improve on making this program user-friendly and intuitive. Beginners will find it hard where to start and will feel frustrated finding their ways in and out. The availability of resources and guides can be very helpful in lessening the required learning curve.

PROS: I have tried a number of open-source programs out there, but what I've found is that this is the one that I can depend on the most and the one that demands the least from me and my computer. I like how this has improved the quality of my output, as well as how it has allowed me to come up with different creative and professional graphics.
CONS: I think the biggest negative when it comes to this program is that it is for the non-professional. Professional designers will find the features very limiting. I have to say that it performs less compared to other well-known programs like Photoshop.

PROS: There are a number of programs that people can turn to when they need an alternative to Photoshop, but in my opinion, the best one among all of them is this program. I am impressed with the number of features it offers compared to other similar programs. I also like how I can get even more out of this program simply by installing plugins. Another thing that I like is the selection of helpful resources found online to maximize its features. Grateful to the community that constantly works towards improving the use of this program.
CONS: I do wish that there are more editing features added to this software.

PROS: There are a lot of things that I appreciate about this program, the first of which is the fact that I get to use it for free. The fact that it is free makes me appreciate even more the many things that I can do with it. I like that it is so easy to export to various formats, whether it is .png or .pdf formats. I am impressed with the number of tools that come with it, and we've been able to use those tools to come up with company logos, vectors, and other images for advertising. I like the variety of effects, filters, and sources that it has on offer. The simplicity of the user interface and the overall user-friendliness of the program are other things that I like about it.
CONS: While it doesn't have a lot of the features of Photoshop, I do think it is unfair to expect that from it since you're getting this software for free. This program has been really helpful to our organization. I do have to say that the changes made in the last update weren't exactly the best. I think the work area could be lightened up a bit since the most recent update has made it too dark.

PROS: Aside from being a free program, the thing that stands out to me is the quality of the images made with this program. I am impressed with the tools that come with it, which include vector selection, adjustment layers, and a host of others. All of those have made it possible for my workflow to proceed in a quick, easy, and professional manner. On top of it all, this is so user-friendly and works really quickly.
CONS: I do wish that this program had a resource or a guide for beginners since the steep learning curve can be daunting for someone who does not have any photo editing experience. The user interface could also be improved, with some menus moved around for a more intuitive and clean experience. Adding all of these improvements will definitely make it easier for new users to get the hang of it.

PROS: There are a number of things I like about this program. First off, I found its interface to be simple and easy to follow. I am also impressed with the colorful images I've been able to create, thanks to this program's variety of tools. I use this program so often that I even have it downloaded to my computer.
CONS: I know it is open-source software, but I do wish that it had more features that are also available in Photoshop. I know that I can get those features by getting add-ons, but having those already built-in would be much more convenient.

PROS: I think that as a graphic tool, this is quite good. I like that it is a free and open-source program that can handle PSDs. I have been using it for years now even when there have been instances where I've had issues with it and some designs that I open with it end up with certain errors. Eventually, I had to stop using this at some point because my sources and clients were all using Photoshop. It was getting tedious switching to Photoshop every time they send me a PSD file.
CONS: I do wish that it was more compatible with PSD files and other plugins that are associated with Photoshop. That way it won't be cumbersome having to switch from time to time.

PROS: I like that GIMP, despite being offered as free can do basic image editing as well as advanced features like path selections, retouching, and image adjustments, just to name a few. Another thing I love about it is it's lighter than Photoshop and can run smoothly on Linux, Mac, and Windows.
CONS: Their interface can be improved. I don't think it looks visually-pleasing and beginners will definitely have a hard time navigating it and finding features that are nested.

PROS: I've been using this for drawings, changing file types, logos, and basic graphic design. I have to say, I am impressed with what it can do, considering that it is free and open-source. The user interface took some time getting used to but I think that if you have a lot of experience with photo editing software you won't have any trouble getting the hang of using this one.
CONS: Seeing as it is open source, there are some shortcuts and features I've gotten used to in Adobe Photoshop that I can't find here. There's a lot of adjustment needed when it comes to using this, especially if you're used to using Photoshop. There are also a number of things I'd like to point out, such as the tools not being as versatile as Photoshop and its interface not being as intuitive. Having said that, it still does get the job done and you get to use it for free.

PROS: Of course, the first and best thing I can point out about this software is that it is free. I am impressed with the number of tools that I get for a free photo editor. I'm very much happy to add to that the great selections of photo effects available in the gmic plugin. The interface has also improved in its new version.
CONS: I wish that it had some of the functionalities that photoshop has. For one thing, layers can't be clipped together so it's hard for me to take brush techniques and separate them. I'd also like to see smart objects added in a future version.

PROS: I'm impressed that this free program manages to compete with other programs that cost a lot more. I appreciate the number of tutorials and resources available in their official forums because it allowed me to learn how to use this at a faster rate than I would have learning other programs. This is really great since when I first started using this I was literally just starting out with the design. I also like the user interface and I think it is intuitive and much easier to understand when compared to other photo editing programs. The program is really efficient and simple, even when I compare it to programs that cost so much more. I also have to commend the features that come with this program since they have also deepened my knowledge of photo editing and design. Overall, I think this program is really great for beginners especially since you don't need to pay for it to use it.
CONS: One thing I do wish this program had was cloud services integration. I really want to be able to have automatic backups as well as be able to save projects quickly.

PROS: The two things I like the most about this software is the fact that it is free and the fact that it is web-based. Because it is web-based, I don't have any problem working anywhere so long as there is an internet connection. I like how perfect it is for businesses that don't have a heavy reliance on image editing since it stops them from spending a lot on a professional package that they won't be using that often anyway.
CONS: Since it is web-based, it doesn't have multi-processors. That can result in some actions being slower, so if you're planning on using this you need to be aware of that. I also don't think it would hurt if they made available to this program some of the plugins that can be found in other similar programs.

PROS: The thing that I appreciate the most about this program is the number of things I can do with it. I can recreate fonts, create covers, and edit graphics with this program.
CONS: Overall, this is a great product that is open source and that you can get for free. That said, I have to warn people who are new to using photo editing software that there is a steep learning curve when it comes to getting the hang of this program. I literally spent most of my time looking for resources when I first started using this program. If they can make future versions of this that are more user-friendly and intuitive, I think that would be a great improvement.
