What is Maptitude?

A robust and flexible mapping software, Maptitude helps companies of all scales and from various industries maximize sales by optimizing territories with volumes of geography-based data. Equipped with unique features, the platform provides modules for business mapping, territory mapping, route planning, and sales and marketing mapping. Charting territories and gaining map-based insights are made easy by Maptitude’s easy-to-use interface and Wizard-enabled tools, along with an Office-like ‘single-document’ saving feature. This allows users of all skill levels, including non-tech-savvy ones, to map out business areas and leverage market data.

Maptitude offers a vast array of pre-loaded data libraries, which account for street maps, demographics, and business data. These can be leveraged to generate maps that come with a diverse set of information, which is instrumental to any business looking to capture new markets and maximize extant ones. What’s more, Maptitude provides industry-ready datasets that can be downloaded on its online store at no extra fee.

To add further depth to its map data, Maptitude furnished its platform with modern geospatial analysis features. These include unlimited geocoding and address matching, market area analysis, automatically balancing territories, route management, hierarchical territories, and facility site location optimization. You can gain countless spatial data insights, which can help you make informed decisions, especially when formulating business strategies.

Since businesses often center on specific markets, Maptitude enables its users to generate custom map reports with key visualizations and set their own business territories, which is highly instrumental for firms with multiple branches. These include thematic maps, 3D graphics, and customizable symbols, layers, and labels. You can also set the platform to automatically populate multi-format reports, such as Excel and PDF, that reflect various data relevant to your business.

To ensure the smooth flow of data, Maptitude features two-way data sync with platforms like Access, Excel, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and ODBC. It also supports various geospatial formats, including Google KML/KMZ, Esri File Geodatabases, MapPoint PTM files, and shapefiles.

Maptitude offers flexibility with its pricing and mode of deployment. Its Desktop Subscription allows you to run the platform offline with no subscription and monthly fees to deal with. On the other hand, Maptitude Online SaaS enables you to chart business territories and leverage map data online. Furthermore, you can upload and remotely share desktop maps with different branches if you purchase an online and desktop subscription.

For instance, transportation companies can manage their routes more efficiently for their fleet to avoid traffic and perpetually reach their destinations on time.

What Problems Will Maptitude Solve?

Problem #1: You’re wasting resources in planning sales territories

Solution: Enterprises often experience difficulties in planning and optimizing their sales territories, leading to wasted business resources. Maptitude helps in this regard by helping you identify the locations of potential customers, the characteristics of potential markets and areas, and the buying potential of communities. The tool then creates maps that combine all this data so you can identify optimal sales territories. Maptitude also has territory-balancing tools that balance various locations in regard to size, workload required, and potential revenue, and territory compactness & contiguity tools that enable you to minimize the size of and distance within service areas and ensure contiguity.

Problem #2: Finding optimal locations for new stores or facilities is challenging

Solution: Finding optimal locations can be complex since it involves a wide range of considerations, including demographic attributes, traffic patterns, and the proximity of other market players. What Maptitude can do is identify areas with high population density, high income levels, high traffic counts, low competitor saturation, and good access to major highways and intersections, all of which favorably contribute to a location’s earning potential. You can also leverage Maptitude to build maps with data for all of the aforementioned factors to determine possible new branches for your business.

Problem #3: It takes too long for your business to reach customers and prospects

Solution: Going into an area blindly with no route planning or optimization involved can cause serious delays to companies, which can lose them time, money, and customers. With Maptitude, you can identify areas with the highest volume of customers, determine the best routes between these areas with account to traffic, estimate the travel duration for various routes, and build maps with all the necessary information. As a result, businesses can find the optimal routes to their customers at any given time.

PROS: Besides it's user-friendliness and robust data bundle with the software, the best thing about Maptitude is its data conversion engine that allows it to read & write data from & to other GIS platforms. First-rate performance by the tech support team to diagnosing and fixing an occasional application problem, performing user-provided data conversion (e.g.. to convert an ESRI gdb into ESRI shp or Maptitude dbd format) and supply tailor-made elevation data for a project area; all examples of the commitment to their user base.

CONS: Data parsing functionality could be enhanced somewhat with a utility function that could scan a string data field and return the number of "words" in that string. Then user could write a script that would reliably populate a target field with the expected pieces of a source field (e.g. breaking down complex street address into component parts for discrete fields, allowing alpha-numeric sorts)

PROS: I use Maptitude mainly for strategic logistics studies, so for me the best features are things like: allocating drops to nearest depots, batch time and mileage calculations, volume flow lines, drivetime zones and the facility location tool.

CONS: Nothing - it used to be slow to install when you got a new version, but those problems are long gone. Any N/As I've filled in on the feature evaluation mean that I don't use those features - it's not a reflection on whether they exist.

PROS: I purchased Maptitude GIS over 20 years ago for my graduate work at UCSC. Maptitude was the only GIS that could handle the amount of data that I need to use. Even the big name, and you know who I mean, couldn't come close. Second reason was the price. Maptitude is by far the value leader in the GIS field and Third, the amount of data that comes bundled with Maptitude is amazing. Oh, and one more, Maptitude is extremely straightforward and easy to use compared to any other GIS product out there. Try Maptitude and like me, you'll never look at another GIS platform.

CONS: I have never ever had Maptitude NOT do what I asked of it. I can think of no problems at all.

PROS: This product makes it possible to perform sophisticated spatial analysis with almost no training. Each version of the product has continued to improve and more analysis tools have been added to the package. Maptitude has always been the best buy of all GIS software, but the continuous improvements have ensured that it is as powerful today as it always has been. Maptitude has the added benefit of converting files between types of GIS software perfectly. The incorporation of imagery is now essential and very welcome. Maptitude is a critical spatial analysis tool. There is no better, more stable GIS software.

CONS: I did not like the new location of the layout option on the menu.

PROS: Maptitude has always had an excellent and intuitive user interface. More recently, in the last 2-3 years Maptitude has really increased its analytical depth, with a number of new statistical and facility location capabilities. I have used Maptitude for over 20 years, and I can say from experience that it just keeps on getting better.

CONS: In the past, Maptitude's analytical depth left some to be desired, but recent updates have mostly fixed that.
