Papertrail Review

PROS: Everything about it is user-friendly from the configuration to the log archiving process. It has wonderful log filtering functionalities that we can access easily from the platform. Because of this we can manage logs and apps effortlessly.

CONS: There is no helpful search context.

PROS: Despite its simplificity, PaperTrail is a powerful solution. Of all the logging software I have used, it is the one that has offered the right balance between functionality and complexity. Because of that, I can better oversee system logs.

CONS: There is nothing much about PaperTrail that elicits criticism from me apart from that fact that they need to work on the interface design. Still, this is irrelevant in relation to the features of the app.

PROS: PaperTrail helps me identify bugs in the system faster than any other application because of its excellent searching capability. And since I belong in a dispersed team, I can appreciate how it lets me configure the timezone setting.

CONS: It would be awesome if we could upload old logs to the platform to make it easier for us to reference them.

PROS: PaperTrail makes error and user activity tracking and monitoring effortless. It is also beneficial for us that it creates logs in a coherent manner.

CONS: The search function acts up at times and to get the specific results you need you have to be detailed in your parameters. However, when it comes to general search, it works without problem.

PROS: Our organization has multiple servers and PaperTrail helps us find specific logs across them with ease using simple keywords or by filtering server groups. It also helps that it servers alerts and notifications regarding actions like server logins via SSH. Moreover, the software is a boon when it comes to searching exploit attempts because it yields accurate results.

CONS: The software offers only a one-year retention service for log archives, which is enough for many but it would help if it offers longer retention time.

PROS: We were able to use PaperTrail from the get-go with minimal configurations.

CONS: They could have better integrations and it would help if they had other deployment options.

PROS: PaperTrail is a feature-rich yet affordable log aggregation software. And on the plus side, they have a reliable support team.

CONS: PaperTrail's search function needs improvement and additional search options like filters. The developers also need to think about rolling out regular updates and new features because it lags behind other software in this regard. It may also be beneficial for everyone if it includes smart log analysis and event filtering.

PROS: We were able to use PaperTrail with a Ruby on Rails app in a matter of minutes. We experienced the same speed and ease of configuration on other apps too.

CONS: The interface needs an upgrade because there are times when it is slow and unresponsive.

PROS: Papertrail is simple yet powerful tool that allows you to send logs from 1 system or 1000 systems to the Papertrail and to search the logs or to trigger the alerts. Its search engine and functionality is easy to use and you can save searches or you can send the results to some external tools like Slack.

CONS: The altering is good for searching specific patterns or number of events but it’s difficult to be used for trending.

PROS: PaperTrail is a simple system that delivers everything it promises to do. It is powerful enought that it can help us organize numerous systems at once and find logs or alerts with ease. It is also great that it can integrate with Slack because we enjoy getting our search parameters and search results on the platform.

CONS: The alerting function needs an upgrade. While it is working well in terms of pattern matching, it does not work for trending.

PROS: Papertrail allows us to search system log files through great number of servers and to filter the results based on the keywords or servers. This is all done quickly and efficiently. I also love the alerting functionality, because it allows me to set up an alert when someone logs into a server or when users public key is accepted for SSH login. It offers great search functionalities.

CONS: The all plans hold an archive of the logs for 1 year.
