Overview of PULScore Benefits

For the service provider, the PULScore provides a set of web-based intuitive dashboards, reports, and visualization tools, building a full awareness of the network state. Each user is assigned a role that defines the access level to the system and information collected.

PULScore is a centralized management system for performance and quality tracking across networks, services, and SLAs. It collects near real-time the KPIs from the measurements fulfilled by the PULSensors, calculates the Service Availability metrics according to configuration, and displays all data in a logical manner to the user.

Users can quickly set up the measurements, whether Service Acceptance Tests or continuous measurements across the network using the PULScore. Test results are made available in well-structured dashboards and reports, which are easily accessible and downloadable from the PULScore, minimizing the need for manual work and unnecessary data exports.

PULScore calculates network performance against agreed or set service level targets and displays an up-to-date SLA status, including analytics and availability status in real-time. Service Availability targets can be based on multiple KPIs, so it is possible to show Service Availability targets (and trigger alerts) combining, e.g., packet loss, latency, and jitter.

Monitoring end-to-end network performance with a focus on service availability provides a well-rounded view of how the network performs, with a capability to exploit both higher-level and lower-level views. Real-time SLA views help to ensure the performance targets of the service provider network are being met, whether they are based on external SLAs or internal service level objectives. Optional PULScore Portal is a multi-tenant web portal for customer branded real-time and historical SLA reporting. The portal can also be used for internal communication, for instance, account teams.

PULScore optimizes the user workflows in daily processes such as service monitoring and troubleshooting. The user can see the big picture of the network and service status from dashboards and map view and, when needed, navigate from top-level to the details keeping the right context. The accuracy and granularity of the active probes combined with the analytics and intelligence of the PULScore system will identify even small anomalies in the network performance and provide insights for actions needed to isolate and fix it. Network analysis and troubleshooting can be facilitated using arbitrary metadata tags, making it easy to filter the data to build quick conclusions. When multiple measurements are correlated in one view, it is possible to better understand the overall performance, dependencies, and impacts of events.

While monitoring, reporting, and troubleshooting are central use cases for PULScore, network optimization and capacity planning are other important areas where it provides valuable information. With the holistic and accurate multi-level performance data, the service provider can easily pinpoint the weakest links in the network and proactively make corrective actions and focused investments for the future.

Here’s an overview of its benefits:

Service Quality Assurance

PULScore helps you ensure that your company or business efficiently and effectively meets critical and complex SLA requirements. You can access real-time reports and analytics on service status, quality, and performance from a dashboard. PULScore allows you to track SLA information about your network and its components according to various sets of customizable criteria such as geographical location, customer, and service type.

As a result, you can identify, analyze, and troubleshoot issues in your network that might lead to service downtimes or interruptions and SLA violations. You’ll know which problems you should focus more on and mitigate them before they impact the quality and performance of your services. You can also send SLA reports and data to customers via Creanord’s customer portal or the KAFKA event streaming interface. These capabilities enable you to acquire and retain more customers and build trust with them.

Granular & Accurate Network Monitoring

PULScore delivers the optimal level of granularity and accuracy needed by business enterprises, communications service providers, and wholesale transport carriers to monitor the performance of their networks. For instance, PULScore uses an integrated portfolio of software and hardware-based probes that quickly, accurately, and intelligently capture network performance measurements across your entire infrastructure.

They can track, collect, and send KPI, latency, and perceived service quality-related metrics data down to the millisecond level from thousands of monitored connections and locations. PULScore also allows you to monitor, measure, and manage the performance of specific elements or components in your network provided by various vendors.

Integration & Interoperability

Through RESTful APIs, PULScore can easily connect and interoperate with your existing enterprise tools, particularly OSS, BSS, and SDN systems. With this, you can automatically accomplish network discovery, validation, configuration, remediation, and optimization tasks in closed-loop mode with lesser workforce involved.

You’ll be able to instantly and seamlessly transmit data to your OSS, BSS, and SDN tools when target network KPI goals aren’t met and service SLAs are violated. Given such integration capabilities, you can also eliminate data silos and improve collaboration among your departments or teams.

What integrations are available for PULScore?

Integration to 3rd party OSS systems is widely supported with PULScore and included in most deployments. Northbound integration is enabled with a variety of API options including Kafka, REST and CSV. Integration towards fault management is commonly implemented using SNMP traps. In addition to exporting data from the PULScore to other systems, it is also possible to provision measurements via RESTCONF API. This is useful e.g. in cases when active measurements should be created automatically or seamlessly as part of the service creation process.

While the REST KPI API interface has been actively used in the past, the Kafka API offers another way to integrate PULScore with external systems, especially in environments where high scalability is required. Kafka API is a highly scalable real-time API for providing PULScore raw KPI measurement results to external systems.

PULScore integrates with:

  • Event/data streaming platforms (e.g., KAFKA)
  • Operations support systems (OSS)
  • Business support systems (BSSs)
  • Software-defined network apps (SDNs)
