What is CloudBerry?

CloudBerry is a suite of online backup solutions that manage file transfers across a range of cloud storage services, including: Amazon Web Services, VMWare, Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud, MS Azure, Cisco, and OneDrive. The vendor, CloudBerry Lab, has an established partnership with Amazon, Google, and Oracle, among others.

Comprised of separate applications, the suite consists of two major products, both of which support Windows, Windows Server, macOS, and Linux, and are compatible with SQL, Oracle Database, and Exchange.

1. CloudBerry Backup – acts as a data backup control panel for corporate and personal use. It works on desktop or server.

2. CloudBerry Managed Backup – a centralized data backup management console for multiple workstations. It is targeted at managed service providers (MSPs), but is also ideal for enterprise IT departments. Resellers can brand it as a third-party offering.

The vendor also offers CloudBerry Explorer, a file management software, and CloudBerry Drive, which mounts cloud storage on Windows Server or PC. Meanwhile, a separate software, CloudDedup, works with CloudBerry Backup for deduplication of your backups (elimination of duplicate files).

The vendor claims its platforms are used by 300,000+ users and 5,000 MSPs, which together support 100+ petabytes of cloud data.

How It Works

CloudBerry provides small and midsized businesses backup tools in private, public, or hybrid cloud platforms. A Create Backup Plan Wizard takes you through clear steps that don’t require technical skills. You choose your target cloud storage, click options for compression and encryption, schedule backup either in manual or auto mode, and set notification for post backups.

On the other hand, CloudBerry Managed Backup allows for remote management and monitoring of client accounts. A vendor-hosted console lets you manage backups via a control panel, which gives you full visibility on multiple backups and access to tools. A Managed Backup Service directs your file transfer requests to the targeted cloud storage location.

All CloudBerry applications are are charged with an initial license fee on a per-computer basis, plus annual maintenance, except for CloudBerry Drive (no annual fee).

Highlights of Its Benefits

CloudBerry is easy to deploy both for file-level and image-based backups, thanks to its intuitive wizard, centralized console, and cloud setup. The suite features flexible interface and tools either for personal use, as a corporate data backup or an enterprise disaster recovery plan. Furthermore, it connects directly to a wide range of cloud storage platforms, giving MSPs a flexible turnkey backup system to build their business on. Other CloudBerry capabilities include:

  • Restore as a cloud virtual machines
  • Data compression
  • Military-grade encryption with customer-controlled keys
  • Offline upload and GUI access to acceleration tools and storage delivery pages
  • Use of Network Attached Storage (NAS) for backups or maintain working user data

Overview of CloudBerry Benefits

This cross-platform solution simplifies your data backup and recovery plan. Companies planning to migrate from tapes to cloud will like that CloudBerry has an intuitive setup wizard and simple control panel that helps to centralize monitoring. Similarly, MSPs will find the offsite backups a fit to their product offerings.

Plenty of choices

Because of its wide array of integration, CloudBerry gives you plenty of choices among the leading and even less popular cloud storage services. From the top providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, to the less known storages from Akaza to Zetta, CloudBerry works seamlessly. As an MSP, that means access to the best cloud technologies and a wider coverage of potential clients.

We’d have loved CloudBerry to bundle storage pricing because it’s cumbersome to cost in cloud storage separately. A consolidated price should give a clear picture of your monthly backup overheads.

Easy to use, sell on the fly

It took us under fifteen minutes to set up CloudBerry with the wizard. Furthermore, the Create Backup Plan wizard gives you a clear step-by-step procedure from selecting the target source and destination to compression and encryption and initiating the backup process.

If you’re an MSP you can optimize CloudBerry to sell to multiple clients at once. You can automate backup schedule and conduct incremental backup to minimize bandwidth on file transfers. Likewise, the system allows for remote deployment, that is, you can install a client to a computer you have access.

It would have been awesome if CloudBerry has mobile apps. This should truly leverage its remote management capability.

White labeling

CloudBerry can be white labeled. A small reseller appears more credible under its own brand. There are two ways to brand the solution, either you pay for a rebranding fee of $129.99 or you use up to $500 worth of licenses.

Highly flexible

Aside from its integration with diverse cloud storages, CloudBerry supports various platforms, OS, and deployment model. It works with popular desktop and server OS across different versions. Whatever your backup hardware and system, CloudBerry is likely to work.

Likewise, the Managed Backup plan lets you create multiple administrators with varying permissions. You can have a team of administrators managing the system depending on your organizational structure. This means MSP managers can delegate tasks to oversee more clients.

You also have options when it comes to the backup process. You can set it up manually, automate schedule, or run it on real time to ensure files are always updated.

Integrates with your apps

Whether you’re customizing the entire backup service workflow or just parts of it, CloudBerry gives you lots of options. It features RPC XML API that lets you integrate your own app or website.

Gives you control and security

The solution supports eighteen encryption types including the standard AES 128-256 bit and other multiple encryption algorithms. The system secures data on transmission and rest and complies with HIPAA.

Likewise, to ensure data integrity you can conduct consistency check option, which updates cloud files with the latest local records. You can also track historical activities from a control panel to oversee the status of your backup plans. This saves you from relying on another app like screenshot sharing to keep a tight grip on all users.

Always upgraded

You can enable automatic updates in the control panel to guarantee you’re using the latest client software. This frees you up from time-consuming system upgrades and ensures you’re steps ahead of malware or bugs. Software updates are included in the annual subscription fee.

What Problems Will CloudBerry Solve?

Problem: IT department lacks visibility and full control on backups
Solution: CloudBerry features centralized management console. It also integrates with Network attached storages to protect against accidental deletion. Likewise, the solution sets up a temporary folder to avoid memory overload.

Problem: Extra charges on support and software updates
Solution: Annual subscription to CloudBerry already includes support and software updates. Moreover, restoring data is free even if you lack a commercial CloudBerry Backup license.

Problem: MSP faced with a portfolio of clients but hesitant to make huge investment in backup infrastructure
Solution: CloudBerry offers tiered plans at managed prices. Setting up twenty computers for file-level backup only costs around $500 yearly. White labeling the platform also means a small MSP keeps its identity even as it scales operation.

CloudBerry Position In Our Categories

Because businesses have unique business needs, it is only rational that they avoid seeking a one-size-fits-all, “perfect” business program. However, it would be futile to pinpoint such a software solution even among popular software systems. The reasonable thing to undertake can be to shortlist the several major functions that necessitate inspection like major features, plans, technical skill ability of staff members, business size, etc. Thereafter, you must perform your product research thoroughly. Go over some of these CloudBerry analyses and scrutinize the other software options in your shortlist in detail. Such well-rounded product research ascertains you take out mismatched software products and buy the one that delivers all the benefits your company requires for success.
