Overview of ManageEngine Password Manager Pro Benefits

Managing Priviledged Accounts

Password Management Pro unifies all priviledged account user accounts in a single location, encrypting them to ensure security. Best practices in password handling are observed, securing your system from external threats. IT assets are automatically discovered by the system and users are allowed to safely share passwords with relevant users.

Managing Remote Access

The platform allows users to access their accounts using any remote device, even those housed in outside servers. And since access is centralized, password management becomes a breeze, eliminating the need for users to reenter their credentials everytime. All logins are automatically verified, giving administrators the ability to easily access resources.

Managing Privileged Sessions

ManageEngine Password Manager offers users the ability to keep a close eye on and even take control of any privilege session, tracking user activity. It can likewise record sessions, which can be very useful in audits. The solution’s dual control feature allows for the generation of shadow sessions, which can be readily halted in real time. Archived videos can be played at any given time, revealing details of privilege sessions.

What Problems Will ManageEngine Password Manager Pro Solve?

Administrative/Privileged passwords are literally aplenty in enterprises. Servers, databases, switches, routers, firewalls and any other hardware or software, could have equally large number of administrative passwords. These passwords are insecurely stored in spreadsheets, text files and even as printouts and are shared by a group of administrators.

This traditional practice brings with it a host of issues such as:

  • Insecure storage of passwords inviting security threats
  • Uncontrolled super-user privileges
  • No role-based access control; internal controls become fragile
  • Lack of accountability for actions
  • No provision for enforcing standard password practices/policies
  • No centralized control

Password Manager Pro solves all these problems by providing a secure system to store, administer, and share passwords.

PROS: The price is affordable and does almost everything. I set up the software so I can find AD computers and users, it finds some local services and scheduled tasks, runs under service account local and/or domain. Local accounts for all domain computers are on different schedules. Their support team does everything to help you solve the issue you have. The tool is like a jump box, I am able to influence users who want to RDP to a server and they can do that via PMP, the thing is that they have to use the PMP and the PMP will launch the RDP session for them, and the session is well recorded.

CONS: Some steps and terminology are not so intuitive and can be quite confusing. In my opinion, their permission strategy is flawed and this makes the configuration awkward. Resources must have owners if not then the pass reset can fail, so I make every resource “owned” by same account in order to solve the issue. I think that if other admins start to add resources then it would become messy. I think that the idea about “owner” is bad, because for e.g. if the “owner” leaves the company and someone has to go into the PMP in order to find the resources and re-assign. It would be great if they could make the tool without the “owner”.

PROS: The pricing model of ManageEngine is great. The product works fine and even if you have some issues its support team is very helpful, they can help you in every way they can. They had fixed the custom patch for us. I have never seen this kind of support service in any product I’m using.

CONS: I cannot think of anything.

PROS: ManageEngine’s price is very affordable. Also, the product will do everything you need and you’ll be amazed that the other competitors cannot do what this product can do.

CONS: It’s hard to figure out how to do it securely. Also, they need to work on some limitations. The fact that I don’t like is that someone can mess the system completely with setting up an open/share and storing the pass in clear text, what I want to say is that someone who doesn’t know how to use this product could share the passwords with everyone. They could improve the ticketing system so we can better track the issues.

PROS: I like how you get to utilize this free of charge even if you only have a few clients. You're given the option to make an upgrade when you're in need of 3 or more contracts monthly (at unlimited contracts). HelloSign does a great job in easily uploading my contract in the form of a PDF. It adds a signature and text boxes to be filled in by my client.

CONS: I wanted to come up with something useful. Sadly, nothing. This makes me a very happy HelloSign user.

Ease of Use

PROS: Fantastic for its pricing. It does what a majority of its competitors do. I was able to configured it in discovering AD PCs as well as users. In the middle of its discvoery, it seeks out tasks scheduled and local services in all servers, and running under-serviced account privileges (domain or local).

CONS: I may appear to be biased since I came from Secret Server, but this product actually makes use of definitions and steps that are both confusing and non-intuitive. I feel there's a flaw in their permissions/ownership/sharing. As a result, configuration tends to be a burden. Resources are imperative, but if that group happens to be in someone else's ownership, then expect the password reset to be flimsy and fail.

PROS: Very simple to utilize. I've been making use of this for a number of years now. Its purpose is to house all our service account passwords. People are fond of going in and helping themselves to using shared passwords.

CONS: As a result of some of its online functionality, we realized the product doesn't usually have compatibility with some browsers. At times, it would oddly revert to using Internet Explorer!

PROS: The software is easy to implement and manage. It was very easy to make the transition to new server and to keep it up-to-date. Great tool for keeping passwords for every device, external sites, internal app accounts. Everything is centralized. We have this servers as a part of our DR and we haven’t experienced any issues. The product is user-friendly and easy to maintain.

CONS: We get an e-mail notification when major releases are available, but it would be great if we could have some alerts when those versions are released. Also, they could make cumulative updates instead of searching for every release version individually.

PROS: Passwords are clearly defined. They're safely stored in a location you know are safe from unauthorized use. Basically, it stores everything in a centralized vault. That's nothing but good news for the security conscious.

CONS: I'm not complaining of anything. It does what it's supposed to do.

PROS: Management and implementing it has never been this easy. I owned an older version of this app. Migrating to a newer server was simple. Getting it updated and patched was a cinch.

CONS: E-mails are sent out whenever there are major releases. It would've been nice to have notifications whenever newer minor versions are available. In addition, whenever there are new versions in place, there's a cumulative update. This is way better than getting to each single release version.
