TIBCO Spotfire Review

PROS: I like being able to tweak filters, analyze data on my own, and be able to visualize it.

CONS: I wish we can avoid the lags whenever we pull huge data sets from external sources. It would also be great to be able to use the native Python, instead of Iron Python for coding scripts.

PROS: I like that it's ready to adapt to whatever we need to do. There are new theoretical solutions that sometimes pop up during discussions as we find our way around the software, so we are able to easily test if those work. This doesn't happen so easily with Excel.

CONS: It would be great to know how to connect it to our data with ease, especially for those who might not have the background on how to pull data outside Excel spreadsheets.

PROS: I like how easy it is to make graphs and automate regular reports we send out to our senior executives.

CONS: I've just started using the tool and haven't experienced anything I dislike yet.

PROS: I like that Spotfire is user-friendly, intuitive and can be calibrated without any fuss. I'm able to work on several data sets simultaneously and with ease.

CONS: It would be great to have an improved licensing package, which does not necessarily need too many analysts, especially if our BAs and architects can create some dashboards on their own, without the need of an analyst.

PROS: Spotfire allows me to work on several templates that are highly visual, and I get to make edits here and there as necessary.

CONS: It would be great if we can avoid lags with larger data. It would also be great if native python is integrated as one of the scripting languages for backend coding when we need to make tweaks.

PROS: TIBCO Spotfire is an excellent tool that complements Excel. It offers a complete chart options and alouds the user to run complex pivot tables of long and heavy data tables. The web option is also great. You can send the attendees of a meeging a link with the report and they access to a "read-only " version of the report.

CONS: it is very difficult to write and understand the coding. If you want to add calculated columns you have to set new coding between existing columns and the available codes are not the same as excel. It also takes time to upload heavy data bases (40 mins. for 250 mb).

PROS: Spotfire's integration capabilities give it that unique edge in facilitating the creation of self-contained analytical applications. If I want to get insight fast and understand patterns in a data set that I am analyzing, Spotfire provides the fastest way to get the data. I find the expression language and pivoting capabilities very convenient to use as well.

CONS: Visual output formatting / layout perspective is something it needs to work on. I typically have to take each of the visualizations and finalize dressing it up Powerpoint. It also doesn't have a higher degree of custom formatting visuals needed for dashboards.

PROS: I like that it met my expectations: data integration for all company data, easy-to-use interface for apps, and it also took less time to set up than usual.

CONS: I like Spotfire, and there's always room for improvement to achieve quality work.

PROS: I like that I'm able to customize whatever I need with Spotfire. I can either use a templated report or improve it by going the backend route using python and/or javascript. It's an excellent reporting tool.

CONS: I like Spotfire in general. I could like it even more if I can use several Y-Axis scales with separate data types and ranges at the same time. Other tools are doing this now. Also, it would be great to have updates on color-coding, so users can use their own color set for branding, and being able to rename document properties that give a little leeway to front-end and back-end developers when the tinker with it.

PROS: With Spotfire, I can easily put in graphics all the information I gather with Excel. It is very easy to setup and use. I also like the fast processing time it takes to generate the report even with large amount of data. It works fast without crashing my PC in the process.

CONS: Support does not support and sometimes they don't have replies to our questions and Drill down in the same chart is not available.

PROS: Spotfire offers features that really impressed me, like in-memory analytics, enterprise architecture, data discovery, intuitive graphs, and highly customizable elements. I also like the look & feel of the dashboards and the information Links are good for multiple data sources. It is very easy to learn for basic operations. i.e. for end users very little training is required.

CONS: For advanced users, it is not as easy as it looks to design robust dashboards. Information Links need to evolve a lot as a semantic layer. There is no straight forward way to implement row-level data security (data access restrictions based on column values).

PROS: Spotfire allows you to customize the application. But I especially like the HTML language in text area. You can design the text area with background colors and images as well you can borders in text area. It supports the S plus and R language which we can used for predictive analysis.

CONS: Support sometimes does not reply to our questions and Drill down in the same chart is not available.

PROS: TIBCO Spotfilre offers powerful visuals and mapping capability which can be a very powerful tool to understand the business and its clients-where they come from, their demographics, socio-economic status and other variables which are important to the organization and their strategic plans.

CONS: It is s;ightly cumbersome in the build but marginal enough not to be an issue. There is a lack of screen real estate to show multiple meaningful graphs or tables. Dashboard capability could use some tweaking to accomodate for the lack of space.

PROS: Spotfire is user friendly, and has great visualizations available. I appreciate the filters, marking, and user interface.

CONS: I find the Custom SQL functionality for information links is not as flexible as i would like. When i change the SQL, i still have to modify elements, which seem like placeholders
