UltraEdit Review

PROS: UltraEdit is great to develop and code in a wide rage of programming languages. Its Window layout is the best. You get to see all files you're editing simultaneously. A multi-line cursor enables you to pick varying lines at different position with one cursor. I'm able to program a number of languages with it.

CONS: The thing that I don't favor is how slow it can be when editing a number of files. I'm required to seek out words/expressions. Seeking within files requires enhancements. It's confusing since it worked in the older version. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next update rollout.

PROS: It's very simple to use. Very fast. Improvement is consistent. Syntax highlighting is the best. There's plenty of functionality that are rarely used. But they're nice to have when you need them in resolving an issue. I've had their license for more than a couple decades now. On certain instances where I need support, they're always there in doing things efficiently and swiftly.

CONS: Nothing to really hate. UltraEdit does exactly what I want it to do. One big reason why I constantly use it.

PROS: I've been making use of UltraEdit for more than a decade. What keeps me coming back to it is its column-node editing and file handling. Support is exceptional. Not only do they resolve problems but they also take note of requests made. These requests would often end up in beta versions. Eventually, it would reach to a stable version.

CONS: Its UI can be outdated. This actually reflects the current standing of the product. It's a veteran in the game for so long that certain parts of it appear to be aging than others. At times, it can be difficult to see things by name and in configuring other things. This is because customizations are more positional instead of being assigned via name.

PROS: I'm able to code in a number of languages. UltraEdit greatly simplifies my job. In between auto indenting/outdenting and color coding, I can do a number of projects at the same time. I get to see what's exactly happening. It's a lot simpler to spot mistakes compared to the editor I've used before.

CONS: Windows ribbons can be a pain. But then again, I don't give a damn for Windows. Aside from that, there's nothing to hate.

PROS: I've been using UltraEdit for more than a decade. I'm very happy with how their team functions in including features. They also work to make sure the editor does things quick and effectively. Pre-built formatting templates are available for coding languages. Project tools and customizations can be made according to your organization's standards or for your own liking.

CONS: I'm having a hard time coming up with a negative. Everything that I wanted over a decade ago have now been included. There's a whole lot more that I've yet to think about in using.

PROS: I like how UltraEdit is a lot simpler to utilize with Linux. It's able to integrate with UltraCompare in a seamless manner. I like being able to make macros and customizing a certain layout. It functions smoothly with its search-and-replace functionality. UI is speedy.

CONS: I like its file accessiblity and automatic backup. I may end up dwelling deeper in Linux-specific programming. But nevertheless, this version functions incredibly well. The Edit functionality comes with a lot of useful utilities. It's smooth in commenting/uncommenting one whole block.

PROS: UltraEdit has two functionality that stands out most. One is its column-editing mode. It's useful in copying just about everything in columns 2-8 on each line end. I've done this with regedit/scripting. Its second functionality is its seamless connectivity to servers by means of sftp.

CONS: The sad part is, its MacOS variant doesn't go as smoothly as that of its Windows counterpart. Being a Windows user for the past ten years or so, shifting to the Mac version can be a surprise. It would either be lacking functionality or I have no clue where to find them. I still couldn't figure out how to edit the default paths list in an FTP profile.

PROS: UltrEdit happens to be a powerhouse text editor in the market. It's really great in terms of configuration, flexibility, and quickness. Ideal for handling large files that other third party editors can't handle. It's more than just an editor for web developers and programmers. Thanks to its UTF support, I've been using it to edit/look into small files that happen to be available in other languages.

CONS: Pricing can be quite steep. I recommend purchasing it for those who are hardcore users and who wants the "best of the best." If you happen to be starting out or you have no clue how a text editor works, then this is something that's not for you. I'd often tell everyone who made an UltraEdit purchase to go for the lifetime upgrade option (free). If I require a text editor for the long term, then UltraEdit will really save you plenty of effort and time.
