What is GlassWire?

GlassWire is a personal firewall and network monitoring software for your internet and network privacy and security. The visual firewall shows you the current and previous Windows PC activities on your network through the network monitoring graph. You can also break down all your network activities according to network traffic types, IP/Hosts, or apps. This functionality streamlines analysis and detects malware, suspicious-behaving apps, spyware, and bandwidth hogs so the firewall feature can block the connections immediately.

GlassWire monitors for any network-related changes and warns you if there’s anything unusual events that might indicate malware. Monitoring also covers other PCs on your network even from afar. It will give you alerts when unknown devices connect to your WiFi (so you can block it immediately) or if you go over your data limits. The mini graph is open on your desktop to give you a quick view of your network security status and alerts you without you having to open the app.

GlassWire gives you end-to-end protection for your network activity, bandwidth usage, and WiFi connections. Downloading the software is free. To add more protection such as monitoring more PCs and remote connections, and accessing older histories, you need to upgrade to its premium version. The tool is used on Windows PCs and Android devices.

Overview of GlassWire Benefits

GlassWire has a built-in firewall to monitor and secure your network. Individuals and organizations can use the software to add more layer of security against malware, spyware and bandwidth hogs. Here’s an overview of its main benefits:

Visual network monitoring

GlassWire offers a visual network monitoring using a graph. It shows users previous and current network activity. You can also interact with the graph to see which applications are initiating ingoing and outgoing bandwidth to make sure you have complete visibility. The network activity can also be broken down into types.

Tighten internet security and privacy

GlassWire lets you know if there’s anything new or suspicious in your computer or network so you can block them immediately. It also offers an array of network security tools such as app information change detection, system file change detection, ARP spoofing, and device list change detection.

Receive discreet alerts

GlassWire makes sure you’re updated of any network changes without being distracted with annoying pop-ups. The alerts briefly appear and disappear in the background. You may “snooze” it to stop getting alerts for 24 hours or disable alerts if you want to monitor activity on your own.

Monitor bandwidth usage

GlassWire monitors the bandwidth of the computer or server where it’s installed so you can keep track of your bandwidth usage on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This feature informs you how you can utilize your bandwidth by seeing which apps are consuming the most traffic.

Oversee remote connections

GlassWire enables you to monitor remote servers for web, VoIP, business and gaming apps on your local computer through its remote access feature. This shows you new network activities and security alerts just like on your local computer even when you’re away.

PROS: One of the reasons I decided to keep Glasswire is that it's beneficial to our IT team. We no longer have to guess the reason behind our system issues because all the data is presented to you can be retrieved right away. Also, it gives everyone in the company access to view the tool that tells you exactly what programs are causing your computers to work slow. Glasswire is also capable of giving us a heads up whenever they detect something unusual that we would like to access our system.

CONS: I am happy and thankful for having Glasswire as part of our business. It helps us stay on top of things by providing a detailed report on what's going on with our network. We've had little to no problems since we had this software installed.

PROS: I am currently using this product to see everything that's happening in my home-based office. I've got multiple units running in the background for research and experiment purposes, so things may slow down, and connection may become intermittent from time to time. Since my internet plan has limited bandwidth, I should learn how to manage my usage by restricting access to other household people. If I exceed my allocation, then I will have a hard time accessing specific programs that are web-based. With Glasswire, I have full control of Wi-fi access and connectivity, which is something that I want. Also, having full control of overall network activity without an IT background is a big plus for users like me.

CONS: I wish that there would come a time that I can be provided with exclusive data access in one computer dedicated to pull up reports and monitor usage. For me, it's very inconvenient to move from one PC to another to be able to retrieve essential info. I also have noticed that Glasswire has been experiencing compatibility issues with certain VPN brands, which can affect the product's overall productivity. I hope that the people behind Glasswire can look into these existing problems so that more VPN subscribers can maximize the use of this firewall app and get real value for their monthly payments.

PROS: I'm the type of person that's easy to please. That is why I'm impressed with the look of its interface because I find it so attractive and user friendly. Having an excellent interface makes me want to use the app more. That is why I spend a significant amount of time monitoring our daily activities and logs whenever I'm in the office. When the time comes that our internet becomes slower, I take the initiative to use Glasswire to check the top reasons that may be causing the latency. With Glasswire, it's easy for me to pinpoint which apps are left open in the background, slowing down productivity. I can give people around me a quick heads up to shut down unnecessary apps eating our allocated bandwidth.

CONS: I tried to think of something that I hate about Glasswire, but I could not come up with any valid reasons. I think that Glasswire is an excellent product that's meant to protect our systems all the time. The marketing team is so aggressive when it comes to upselling; that is why I was convinced to upgrade to the premium plan, which costs more. Still, I'm happy with the way the product works. Also, the support has been overwhelming, so I'm staying for a very long time.

PROS: The settings of the product are very versatile and friendly for all types of users. The data reports have always been accurate and on time. Users who are trying to gain access to our connection are easily identified and blocked. It gives us an additional safety net, which I genuinely appreciate.

CONS: There is nothing much to dislike about Glasswire because it's so straightforward to use. Also, it aims to provide transparent information regarding ongoing and upcoming network activities. More attractive features can be added to Glasswire, such as geomapping, that is highly ideal for large scale corporations.

PROS: I was a bit skeptical about Glasswire when I first saw it because of the mere fact that it's free. I asked myself, what can I get out of a product that doesn't charge people anything. My gut feeling told me to give things a try and see how it works. For the past few years of using Glasswire, I have personally seen how it evolved from a novice product into something that I can be genuinely proud of. I didn't mind upgrading my subscription because I enjoy all the perks that it has to offer in terms of application security and network traffic control. These things are beneficial to our operations and revenue, which Glasswire has been providing us with. They never failed us, so the partnership with continue as long as I would like them to be part of my business.

CONS: Since I've been a long-time user of Glasswire, I can say they still have many opportunities that they need to work on in terms of features and services. One of the primary concerns would be the product's inability to block or prevent specific sites from being accessed online. I received reports that some of our employees are playing games and using prohibited sites during office hours. Also, I wish that it comes with features like reporting that could provide me with details on the sites and apps that are being accessed. This will enable me to provide tangible proof for necessary documents for disciplinary action.

PROS: There is a long list of features that I appreciate about the product. One is that it's highly capable of closely monitoring all network-related activities running on multiple computers in the office. It's easy to see what programs are running in every unit and how much bandwidth they are regularly consuming. Our IT team finds Glasswire one of the top tools that they can rely on whenever they need diagnostics and repair. It lessens their backlogs, making them more efficient in providing overall support to our business. Another thing that we like about Glasswire is its compatibility with other existing operating systems that are currently available in the market today. We were able to install it promptly. We started using it to detect any potential threats, including malware that can cause significant problems in our business, which we all should watch out for.

CONS: It would be a better idea to revamp their payment options to make the product more worthy to most of its users. It would be great to bundle the product with anti-virus software to maximize the program's purpose without the need to spend extra on other things. No matter how hard we work to protect our programs against cybercriminals, there will always be individuals who will try to steal information. That is why Glasswire should work extra hard to enhance their product.

PROS: I love that Glasswire never gave us any significant headaches, making us all very happy and satisfied clients. The product works very well for small to large businesses by providing the right amount of security to ensure that networks are well protected from those who would like to take advantage of the situation. There's no need to be an IT expert to learn how to install and use Galsswire because there are ways to achieve these on your own. I appreciate that it works non stop to give us the necessary protection against hackers and viruses. This could destroy all the data that we have been protecting for a very long time.

CONS: I tried to come up with a list of things that I don't like about Glasswire. I couldn't think of anything yet, maybe because the experience has been smooth sailing throughout the years. I never experienced asking for help from their employees because everything is excellent.

PROS: Glasswire is one of my favorite apps that I access every day in the office. I can have it customized to fit the window of my laptop and tablet to see how my network traffic is doing during operating hours. I also would like to commend its built-in firewall for its capability to detect threats and monitor system activity of all workers 24/7. Been using it for Windows OS and no major issues so far, which I am thankful for. Also, I appreciate the fact that I can pull out data reports daily to easily determine the things that cause our system to log and identify activities and users that aren't permitted by the system. Working with a limited bandwidth allocation can be challenging, but Glasswire can help you control your data usage without exerting much effort on your end.

CONS: One of the significant downsides of buying this product is its limitations in customizing settings. Our internet plan offers us limited bandwidth each month. That is why we have to be very careful with how we use it or pay extra for additional data. I would appreciate it if they could develop specific ways to measure our monthly allocation using whatever gadgets we prefer. I want to maximize my mobile phone to monitor multiple activities, even if I am out of the office. Lastly, it would be great if they could come up with different adjustable modes that would suit the users' mood or network administrator.

It makes sure that employees are using the allocated bandwidth for business purposes only and not for social media or gaming during work hours.

CONS: Well, not that much because I always look at the benefits I'm getting from the product. However, since I am currently using the free version, I always see offers for an upgrade are bothersome and something that I could not afford.
