What is Lansweeper?

Lansweeper is a scalable and flexible network inventory and asset management software that delivers rich features and capabilities to a wide range of companies. The software permits the automatic discovery of all  Windows, Linux, and Mac machines on a network through the aid of its agent-free network scanning capabilities. It also enables users to track the applications they installed on their computers and determine whether they have licenses for all of them.

Moreover, Lansweeper lets IT professionals organize all their help desk communications as well as their IT assets in one highly customizable and single sign-on web console, assisting them in increasing agent productivity and improving customer experience. The software comes with knowledge base management features which allow the creation of self-help articles and resources that are easy to search. To improve compliance with company policies, Lansweeper can provide detailed reports that assist managers in obtaining insights into the compliance status of their network.

Lansweeper is equipped with built-in application development tools which enable users to automatically distribute, install, uninstall, and update software applications on groups of assets or a specific asset. As they deploy applications, the software permits them to immediately resolve non-compliance issues. The network inventory and asset management software has Active Directory management features that can be used for capturing detailed information about the computers on a network and combining it with user data from Active Directory. With Lansweeper, IT professionals and network administrators can gather detailed information about their network devices such as printers, switches, and routers using its SNMP network scanning capabilities

Overview of Lansweeper Benefits

Agent-Free PC And Network Scanning

One of the noteworthy features offered by Lansweeper is its ability to conduct PC and network inventory without the need for deploying agents on the machines. Thus, users will be able to create schedules for scanning computers on their network according to IP ranges and critical servers. Then, the software automatically scans such computers and generates detailed scanned information about them. This information includes details on hardware, software, event logs, Windows updates, and product keys.

Access Quick Overviews Of All Computers And Devices On A Network

Lansweeper has the capability to provide quick overviews of all computers and devices on a network. It can instantly organize and sort these computers and machines into different categories such as device type, domain, model, operating system, and organizational unit so users can quickly access the information they need. They can also create their own categories to customize how they sort their machines when they conduct IT asset inventory.

Enhance IT Asset Management With Administrative Tasks

As users discover all the computers and devices on their network, Lansweeper permits them to perform common administrative tasks. From a user, device, or computer web page, they will be able to perform actions such as accessing Windows services on a client machine, executing a Wake-on-LAN, and resetting a password.

Software Inventory And Software License Auditing

The network inventory and asset management software ensures that IT professionals and network administrators are able to perform software inventory and software licensing auditing with ease. The software enables them to immediately access detailed information and reports about the applications and programs that are frequently installed on their computers, the different versions of applications and programs, as well as the software packages from a specific publisher. When there are software packages that are unknown or unfamiliar to them, Lansweeper helps them quickly identify such packages. In addition, it has a database where users can track all software installations and uninstallations. The will receive notifications when new software installations occur as well as delete unauthorized software installations.

Automated Software Deployment

Lansweeper is built with automated software deployment capabilities. Users can create their own software deployment packages that provide them with the ability to perform actions as they distribute software across their devices such as the silent installation and uninstallation of software, execution of registry changes on the machines, killing of processes, and running of custom scripts. They can assign computers to static or dynamic asset groups based on any criteria which include operating system or architecture. This way, they will be able to make deployments aimed at those targeted groups. Also, Lansweeper permits them to schedule their deployments which can be on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Active Directory Integration And Management

The network management and scanning capabilities of Lansweeper are enhanced by its powerful integration with Active Directory. It allows users to scan and filter multiple domains and organizational units and enables them to pull in data from Active Directory so they can track the employees who are using their machines as well as the dates when such machines have been accessed. They can also update their Active Directory records in the event that a hardware is decommissioned or a computer is deactivated. In addition, user pictures can be added to its web console so device users are easily identified when they log in to computers.

Discover SNMP Enabled Network Devices

Lansweeper includes the ability to automatically discover network devices on a network. Through the aid of its SNMP scanning feature, users will be able instantly scan SNMP enabled network devices and access detailed information about them such as device name, MAC IP address, vendor, model, and serial number. By entering IP ranges, they can automatically scan network devices like printers, routers, and switches. They can also search and filter these devices using multiple criteria. The software offers built-in reports that help users schedule maintenance works or replace devices. For instance, through such reports, they will be notified when their printers are running low on toner, allowing them to order new cartridges.

Robust Helpdesk And IT Service Ticketing System

Another great feature provided by Lansweeper is its robust ticketing system. This system is integrated with its asset management capabilities and lets users organize all their help desk communications in one place. With this feature, customers outside the organization can raise questions and seek assistance. Employees from different departments within the organization can also send support tickets and requests that support teams can easily access and work on. Support tickets and cases can be routed automatically to appropriate individuals. As users handle these tickets and cases, they can prioritize them based on the concerned customers who sent those tickets and initiated the cases. Additionally, this feature permits users to dispatch emails based on certain keywords included in the subject lines.

Lansweeper’s helpdesk and IT service ticketing system also generates dashboards that contain metrics that users can define. With these dashboards, they will be able to visualize trends in how fast cases are being managed and resolved. The dashboards provide overviews in real time about the things that are happening throughout the service desk.

Create And Manage Knowledge Base Content

To wrap it up, Lansweeper delivers integrated knowledge base management capabilities that assist organizations and their IT teams in creating knowledge base articles and content so they can streamline their processes, enabling employees to quickly access the information they need and customers to resolve issues on their own. As agents troubleshoot issues, these fixes can be documented together with the workarounds that are required to solve those issues. Users can also control how employees and customers access information and content from their knowledge base. They can grant and restrict access based on user roles.

Lansweeper Position In Our Categories

Knowing that companies have special business needs, it is wise they avoid purchasing an all-encompassing, ”best” solution. Be that as it may, it would be almost impossible to come across such an app even among popular software products. The rational thing to do should be to write the several main aspects that merit deliberation such as critical features, costing, skill competence of staff, business size, etc. Thereafter, you should conduct the product research exhaustively. Read some Lansweeper analyses and check out the other software programs in your shortlist more closely. Such comprehensive research makes sure you weed out unsuitable software solutions and select the system which meets all the features your business requires for success.

Position of Lansweeper in our main categories:

TOP 10

Lansweeper is one of the top 10 IT Asset Management Software products

If you are interested in Lansweeper it could also be a good idea to examine other subcategories of IT Asset Management Software gathered in our base of SaaS software reviews.

It is crucial to realize that virtually no software in the IT Asset Management Software category is going to be an ideal solution able to fulfill all the requirements of different company types, sizes and industries. It may be a good idea to read a few Lansweeper IT Asset Management Software reviews first as some software might perform well exclusively in a really small group of applications or be designed with a very specific type of industry in mind. Others can function with an intention of being easy and intuitive and therefore lack complex functionalities needed by more experienced users. There are also software that focus on a wide group of users and offer a powerful feature toolbox, however that in most cases comes at a higher cost of such a solution. Be certain that you're aware of your needs so that you purchase a solution that provides all the functionalities you search for.

PROS: Our helpdesk team can work more efficiently with the help of Lansweeper’s intuitive ticketing system. We make it a point to solve all urgent issues within the day and the remaining ones within 48 hours.

CONS: I wish that the support team behind Lansweeper would be more proactive in helping us uncover more answers to each of our concerns. We tried to join several online forums to raise our queries, but we haven’t got the answers/solutions that we were looking for. Another concern is that we find it difficult to look for information and access certain features whenever they update the platform.

PROS: Network scanning can be time-consuming, so I am thankful that Lansweeper was introduced to us, which made life a lot easier. Also, inventory sessions are now more seamless than before because Lansweeper can easily identify the units that need to be repaired by the manufacturer.

CONS: It took a while for us to complete the first scan for all our brand new units. We are glad that Lansweeper was able to complete the job in just a couple of days. Yes, it is time-consuming, but we have no choice but to do the scans by batches to prevent network issues that can cause us bigger problems.

PROS: As a long-time user of Lansweeper, I must say that you should not underestimate this product's capability. What amazes me is its ability to track all the valuable information that concerns all our computers, printers, software, and other stuff. The system is always being updated to ensure that we can monitor all existing assets seamlessly. Should there be any significant issues, we don't have to worry anymore because their helpdesk team is just one call or ticket away. This tool is considered part of my company investment in the long run because it gives me essential reports that I would like to see weekly. The product's annual price is not considered cheap. Still, considering the things that it can do for the company, I would say it's pretty reasonable. As long as employees love using LANSweeper, then we are here to stay as clients.

CONS: One way to address its users' recurring issues is by launching a ticket that goes straight to the helpdesk. As users, we are required to fill up multiple fields correctly for your request to push through and be addressed in less than 24 hours. If not, then the ticket gets rejected, and you're back on square one. Another issue is the inconsistent speed and performance of LANSweeper, depending on the server that they are currently using. As paying customers, I believe that we deserve to have a system that works fast and delivers results 24/7.

PROS: It is not all the time that we have sufficient staff to look after our network needs. That is why we decided to invest with Lansweeper to serve as an alternative to some of our IT staff. The level of functionality of this tool is more than what we expect it to be. The amount of work that it produces is comparative to a human being, which makes the product impressive. I am thankful that this platform has saved us from doing countless hours of hardware and software audits. It is capable of sourcing out all system information that you need in one go.

CONS: We just acquired the product less than a month ago, and I am currently observing its overall performance. So far, things are going smoothly, but I’ll let you guys know in case something comes up.

PROS: One of the easiest products that I've worked with in my entire career. I love its capability to personalize reports to understand what's going on with all corporate assets. Plus, it allows you to do some remote work, thus making it more efficient.

CONS: We have to use a separate set of security software to send us system alerts regarding suspicious activities. It would be great to integrate this into Lnasweeper, but it's not applicable as of the moment.

CONS: We have been using this system to install and introduce software for the entire business. I suggest that you initiate the deployment process in small batches because it can get really slow right in the middle of the session. You might also encounter some issues during the installation process that could cause you bigger headaches. It’s better to be prepared than feel overwhelmed later on.

CONS: It can take a while to restart PC’s from a remote location. It would be faster if you’d instruct the user to do it by himself rather than relying on Lansweeper to do this simple task.

PROS: One of the things that I appreciate about Lansweeper is the easy to install guidelines since the instructions are easy to follow. One of its primary tasks is to scan all PCs for potential updates, viruses, or threats, thus keeping it safe and efficient for everyday work. Some units work overtime, so we should make an effort to schedule regular scans to keep it in optimum condition.

CONS: One of the first things that I noticed while using LANsweeper is the crowded interface. All the information that is being provided is relevant to keep all our assets running smoothly. But having all this information placed on a single page can be confusing on the users' end. Suppose the person is not that knowledgeable about all the technical jargon presented in front of him. In that case, he can have a hard time doing his job efficiently. Also, I think that the demo data that continually appears on screen is distracting, so I found a way to get rid of it for good.

CONS: One of the challenges that I have encountered while using this tool is the reporting feature. I want our daily reports to be organized, so that’s easy to understand by all staff members. You can group your assets based on certain categories so you can easily find what you are looking for if something needs to be repaired or replaced to ensure that all assets are in great shape.

CONS: The number of reports that it produces is almost too overwhelming to interpret. I know that it's useful in so many ways.
