Libris is a media asset manager offered by PhotoShelter that provides teams easy access to media files whenever they need to regardless of wherever they are. It is simple and easy-to-use, which is why many users are enamored with it.
With Libris, teams are ensured that all their visual media assets are in safe hands. By operating on PhotoShelter’s own network, the MAM solution backs-up companies’ files in secure servers across numerous data centers.
And being a cloud-based service, Libris affords teams, partners, and collaborators mobility. Unique access permissions are granted by the administrator, thus allowing users to gain entry into folders wherein relevant files are stored. This further allows companies to better control and manage their brand’s story.
Show MoreHere are some of the benefits commonly associated to using Libris:
Straightforward Setup
Libris is easy to setup, even without technical help from PhotoShelter. In the migration process, preexisting folder structures and file metadata remain intact. This shortens the configuration time and allows teams to immediately get to work on organizing their files and sharing media across channels.
Speedy File Transfers
The Libris system enables teams to upload their files expeditiously. On top of that, third-party collaborators are able to enjoy the same speed when sharing or downloading project assets. Uploading is also effortless—media managers can drag-and-drop files on PC, use the mobile app, or send them to the system via FTP, Photo Mechanic, or Adobe Lightroom plugins. With this functionality, collaborators can quickly access and share relevant media without having to waste time waiting for the file transfer to finish.
Secure Network and Assets
With Libris, creative and production teams need not worry about the security of their assets. The application’s network ensures that media files are available only to those who were given the right access and permission controls. Further, the solution is hosted by PhotoShelter’s own network, thus users can rest assured that their files are stored and backed-up in secure servers.
In addition, Libris allows teams to secure their files their own way against copyright infringement. They can do so by applying text or image watermarks and by limiting the number of files users can download into their devices. The MAM solution also disables the right-click method of file saving, giving companies and collaborators the peace of mind that their assets are in safe hands.
Flexible Folder Taxonomy
Organizing a ton of media files may be an arduous task, but Libris’ flexible folder structure simplifies the process. Teams can apply their own taxonomy to the system so members do not have to adjust to a new arrangement.
Aside from file organization, Libris allows users to create galleries and collections. This makes files movable and easily available in multiple galleries. Therefore, users can definitely access different media according to specific categorizations smoothly.
File Tagging and Robust Search
With Libris, finding files is quick and effortless. The solution’s intuitive tagging and smart metadata reading allows it to pull up relevant files from the library with intelligent keyword and data filters. This way, members quickly find the media they are looking for and work on them immediately.
User Access and Authorization Control
Libris places the ability to control user access and permissions into the hands of system administrators. With the application, supervisors can set passwords on files and folders, grant asset access to only a handful of collaborators, make certain media public, or keep particular files private. And with unlimited invited collaborators, teams can streamline their workflow processes and distribute content to whoever needs them.
Branded Portal
Libris offers companies a way to disseminate content in a portal that reflects their branding. The application provides a highly-configurable portal to give users and visitors a unique and constant brand experience.
Easy File Sharing
Countless collaborators can use Libris to share assets and project files in one common work platform. Photos and videos are uploaded and are available for downloaded regardless of their file size or format. The application even supports email invite file viewing so collaborators outside of the company can access particular assets with no aid. Even bulk file sharing is made simple with the solution’s Quick Send feature.
Turnkey E-Commerce
With Libris, companies can generate additional income by selling their assets. All they need to do is set-up their favored payment processor and they are ready to garner more revenue from their media minus the hands-on management of printing or delivery.
Single Sign On and API Integration
Libris implements a single sign-on to their system as well as to integrated solutions. This allows members to do their work more efficiently without expending more time on managing their user permissions.
Libris further streamlines a team’s workflow by fluidly integrating with third-party applications. This provides them a single platform wherein they can perform various tasks without launching several programs at once.
Show MoreKeeping in mind businesses have distinct business demands, it is only rational that they avoid purchasing a one-size-fits-all, “perfect” solution. Having said that, it is troublesome to discover such a software solution even among well-known software products. The practicable step to undertake would be to write down the different vital aspects which merit scrutiny like essential features, costing, technical skill aptitude of the employees, business size, etc. The second step is, you should follow through the product research through and through. Have a look at some of these Libris analyses and check out the other software options in your list in detail. Such detailed research ensure you avoid unsuitable apps and select the one that offers all the tools your business requires.

Enterprises have diverse needs and requirements and no software platform can be just right in such a scenario. It is pointless to try to find a perfect out-of-the-box software product that meets all your business needs. The wise thing to do would be to modify the application for your unique needs, staff member skill levels, budget, and other elements. For these reasons, do not hasten and subscribe to well-publicized popular systems. Though these may be widely used, they may not be the ideal fit for your unique needs. Do your groundwork, investigate each short-listed application in detail, read a few Libris Digital Asset Management Software reviews, contact the seller for explanations, and finally choose the app that offers what you need.

PROS: Libris has completely revamped my workflow. Now, I know longer have to spend hours looking into each of my file folders just to find a photo that I want to use in a particular project. The search feature is incredible and I’ve been able to unearth some photos from way back thanks to it. Our freelance contributors can easily upload their files into the platform too--this is one task that I no longer have to do myself. I can easily access data at just about any device and anywhere I am as well.
CONS: I think Libris still lacks some functionalities that other data management tools have. For one, I would prefer to upload and download images by batch. However, Libris doesn’t support this function yet. It would be nice if they were to introduce this on the next upgrade. It gets quite tiring to constantly jump from one window to another when retrieving files too.

PROS: Libris takes the stress out of file organization in our team. What used to be a daunting task is now just as easy as clicking and dragging files around to transfer them. There are zero lag times too, based on my experience.
CONS: It isn’t as strict when it comes to file name duplicates. I think that the program should flag these duplicates right away. Plus, it would be nice to get notified whenever a new user has gained access to the folders too. This way, we can thoroughly vet who gets access to our folders. The environment could use some customization too.

Ease of Use
PROS: Libris has vastly improved our work process. Through it, we’ve been able to easily save our media files into the correct folders. As a consequence, this has made file-sharing to our clients much more easily too.
CONS: You can’t just leave Libris running in the background while you try to retrieve files--the program won’t allow you to leave the page. Also, while having a cover photo for every folder is useful, it doesn’t recognize covers from a video.
Makes file saving and sharing so much easier.

PROS: Libris has not only kept our files organized, but we’ve also been able to use it for sharing our output to clients too. It’s a truly remarkable tool that takes the stress away from having to manually go through every folder just to locate a specific file.
CONS: This tool is only as good as its user. If you’re not diligent in tagging and naming your files properly, then you won’t be able to enjoy the ease of finding files by simply inputting keywords. Admittedly, it would be nice if Libris were to develop a file-searching method that is not completely dependent on keywords. Some folders that are exclusive to text files don’t have cover photos too.
A great tool for handling voluminous files.

PROS: Libris is the complete package when it comes to online data storage. First of all, it is very easy to use. There’s no learning curve with this tool. And if you do stumble upon any issue, you can always rely on the resources they have available to help you out. Said resources can range from video training, community forums, and answers to frequently asked questions that teach Libris users to fully utilize this program. I love the sense of ease that Libris provides me and my team too. Now, we can rest easy in the knowledge that our files can be retrieved at any time, and with virtually zero chances of it getting corrupted. So far, we haven’t had any trouble with the uploading and downloading speed of files with Libris too.
CONS: As useful as Libris is, it does take some time for us to retrieve data files because we have to download each one individually. I wish Libris can figure out a way to batch the uploads, instead of having us go through the grueling process of clicking on each one.
Has helped us stay organized.

PROS: Libris is the answer that we needed to solve the issue of our growing (and quickly getting out-of-hand) media library. Through it, we’ve been able to work more efficiently because we can easily store and retrieve our data from one place. The layout itself is quite easy to get used to as well. We haven’t had any major issues with Libris, especially with their support staff always responsive and helpful.
CONS: The membership costs a pretty penny. It would be nice if they would make this tool more affordable.
A truly reliable management tool.
