Rational ClearQuest Review

PROS: ClearQuest is straightforward and robust tool that can be set up in various ways from some loose collection of data to state machine. The tool is easy to set up and it provides us with great administrative tools and we are able to use backend databases. It has great search and query functions so even those with less knowledge about database can query data.

CONS: It can be slow. The product could use more support for test environments for large scale changes to roll out to production.

PROS: In my experience this is great change management system. There are lot of options for change tracking, process automation, reporting and lifecycle traceability for better control of the work lifecycle. It is straight and simple solution. We can easily track stages and progress. I like that there are lot of fileds so you can add details about the issue. You can easily make queries and search issues.

CONS: It can be pain when it comes to handling duplicate issues in automation. There is no support team available.

PROS: We use ClearQuest at our company t track changes and work requests. With this product we can easily create work and change requests for tasks. The good thing is that the right people are notified through email and their approval is requested. We can easily add notes to requests. I like that it allows me to create own queries, and their creation is intuitive and we don’t have to consult documentation whenever we create one.

CONS: I don’t have much to dislike about this tool, it is easy to use and it satisfies all my needs. The fact is that the installation of tool is complicated and it takes some time to learn it. When we started using this product the installation required few reboots and it was really hard to script.

PROS: This is great configuration control system that works great when combined with Work Request and Change Request processes. The search feature is easy to use and it helps us to find old items and to combine current items as well. We are using it for tracking specific changes to servers for both hardware and software types. Also, it allows us an approval mechanism so we can track the change process and to track our monthly patching process for our Linux and Microsoft systems.

CONS: There are some things that need improvements, like when adding a spell checker for fast submittal turnaround times.

PROS: A highly versatile platform. Setup can be done in a number of ways ranging from loose data collection to a very strict and managed state. It contains useful admin tools while utilizing known backend databases. Its impressive search and query functionality lets each user to query data easily.

CONS: Its web application moves at a snail's pace. It needs further support for test environments to cater huge changes to its database before rolling it out for public use.

PROS: With ClearQuest we can track defects quickly and easily. Its filtering options and categorization are detailed and can be easily customized for your process. It has quick performance even when we have huge amount of data to manage. Also, it allows us to export to Excel which can be easy for analyzing and reporting.

CONS: Defect descriptions are free form and it is needed minimum requirement for logging defect.

PROS: I like there current management system. It offers tracking changes, automatic processing, and lifecycle tracking for enhanced control and management of the software development cycle. Their user interface is straightforward and easy to understand. A history section shows clear details of its progress. Integration is seamless with CI. Search issues can be swiftly done.

CONS: Its ability to handle duplicate issues can be a problem. Customer support isn't as good as expected since no one responded to my inquiries.

PROS: At work, I use ClearQuest to keep track of work requests and changes. The tool helped targeted persons to receive notifications and approval requests. Notes can be added to requests on the fly and approval (tiered) can be changed. I like how I can create my own queries. Query creation is intuitive and there's never a need for documentation consults. Mandatory fields ensure all needed data is given when a specific criteria is met.

CONS: There's nothing much to not like with this tool. Installation is a bit complex and it took a bit of time to make it perfect. We had to go through a lot of reboots and the script was surprisingly challenging. It took us awhile before we finally mastered deployments via SCCM.

PROS: I love having the ability to hand over bugs to the right teams using a proper project ID. As a developer, keeping track of bugs is essential to monitor their progress.

CONS: I find their user interface to be a bit old. It would be great if they can make it appealing to new and old users with a fresh design.

PROS: I’m using this product to track bugs. It is simple and easy to use and when adding attachments it provides great FTP links to attach large files if needed. It allows me to create personal queries so I can filter bugs. In addition, the favorites and Recent items tabs are extremely useful and the navigator is straightforward as well.

CONS: The search engine cannot function if you don’t have Issue ID. Also, the UI needs lot of improvements especialy when it comes to minimizing bugs because at you’ll search around where it went. Additionally, it would be great if they could increase the limit of an attachment size.

PROS: We can include detail description from submitting new defect till closing it. The UI is intuitive and clear. It allows us to add query so we can find some defects from the database. Also, thanks to its filters we are able to manage huge amount of defect reports. We can eaisly follow the interaction between Rational ClearQuest adn Rational ClearCase. It is easy to use and it doesn’t take lot of time to learn it.

CONS: It would be great if the rollback is possible for defect state. Also, there is no option to overwrite the text inside “Note” section, once the note is added it cannot be removed or modify. In addition, we had some issues when attaching huge file and the system is slow for some old defects.
