SimScale is a cloud-based, cost-efficient, and accessible CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) platform that offers performing CFD (Fluid Dynamics), FEA (Finite Elements Analysis), thermodynamics and other types of simulations. Free for public work and accessible via web-browsers, the software does not require any installation or costly investment in high-performance hardware.
All the users need in order to get started is to upload their models and start analyzing right away. Users also get to browse through thousands of completed simulations made by the SimScale community at no extra cost. The community projects serve as base templates that can be used to perform Solid Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics, Thermal and other analyses. The software aims to deliver high-performance simulation to the common people and offers a wide range of simulation capabilities to cater needs of different segments.
Show MoreAccessibility and cost-effectiveness are the most obvious benefits of the software as it saves users from investing in costly hardware and professional expertise required to perform simulations. Users can start analyzing the results from a web-browser after uploading the models or starting from an existing template and setting up analyses. The software is also scalable, allowing users to adjust pricing according to their specific needs and comes with no huge fixed-costs, long-term commitments and maintenance fees. Users benefit from an existing library of completed simulation projects, which saves them from starting from the scratch.
SimScale offers powerful computing resources that allow users to test and optimize their designs virtually. The broad range of simulation functionalities ranges from thermodynamics to solid mechanics and acoustic analysis, while the web-based interface makes it easier to collaborate with team members. The platform allows users to comment on projects made by others and share their own results with co-workers. Data security is another area where the software shines and ensures that all the information transmitted is encrypted and backed-up on multiple servers.
SimScale puts virtually unlimited simulation capacity in the hands of everyone and provides instant access to powerful computing. Users only have to pay for the simulation capacity they actually need, or even benefit from the services for free if they are not looking for advanced functionality and don’t mind making their projects private.
Show MoreKeeping in mind businesses have specific business demands, it is practical that they abstain from adopting an all-encompassing, ”best” software. Just the same, it is difficult to try to chance on such a software product even among well-known software solutions. PROS: I love how I get instant accessiblity to bigger computer power for CFD analysis as well as for Finite Elements. Through its free account, you can operate simulations as much as 10+ million CFD cells. This can be made possible with the cloud and without making use of local resources since it's a web-based UI.
CONS: There are still certain simulation features that are lacking. But as mentioned by the company themselves, such features are well on their way. Having intermitttent/slow broadband speeds can also have a bad impact when it comes to productivity. Companies who have limited web access may not be able to make use of the platform.

PROS: For a long while now, I've experienced and told everyone how a CAE software eats up a lot resources and time. That would mean making use of a PC with decent specs in running bigger simulations. But thanks to Simscale, I'm able to operate large simulations even from a tablet! I didn't know I could actually do this. So that's a huge advantage!
CONS: It only happened to me one time. But it was short. Servers went offline or issues were experienced due to some kind of server issues happening from your side. The issue was resolved quickly. But due to Simscale operating in servers, I'm a bit surpised the problem came up.

PROS: I like how their interface functions. And I love how I no longer have to utilize my personal computing resources. Now, I can send my jobs straight to the cloud. I can then directly e-mail when the job happens to be done. Making use of a browser for setting up simulation is awesome and a big help!
CONS: Since I'm academic user, I'd love to having the freedom to give advanced models a try. I felt this is something where the product falls short. I'm also making use of other third party software such as Abaqus & FEAP. Right SimScale isn't really meant for using both materials and elements.
An awesome software bundled with exceptional support!

PROS: I'm able to access a wide range of functionality in a CFD package. All that directly from the browser itself. SimScale is more than just a well-built CAE suite, it's also a great education resource backed with a pro-active community. The staff from SimScale work closely with their user base and actively takes part in the forum. SimScale is intuitive and organized.
CONS: SimScale is started from the ground up. While it's a good thing, it does lack some functionality that advanced users might expect. However, their growth is rapid. Their staff constantly look into the user-based forums for prioritizing certain features and ideas constantly.

PROS: I love maneuvering around their interface. I no longer have to worry about making use of my computing resources. I can now submit jobs directly to the cloud. These can then be intimated over the e-mail when the job is through.
CONS: Being as an academic user, I'd like to have the freedom in giving advanced models a go beyond what the boxes are able to offer. I felt this is something that fell a little short. I'm also using other third party softwares to allow for user materials as well as elements. Since I'm a material scientist I see this as something ultimately useful.
Offers straightforward access to more simulated computing power.

PROS: For a number of years I was told that a CAE software would entail plenty of resources and space. That would entail having a reasonable PC if you're in search of bigger simulations. Through SimScale I'm able to operate bigger simulations even if it's coming from my tablet.
CONS: This occurred to me one time. But it occurred for a very short time period. Servers went offline. But it was quickly resolved by Simscale although I'm really surprised by it.

PROS: I love the fact that accessing big computer power can be made instantly for Finite Elements and making analysis of CFD. Especaily on a free account that asks your projects to be made in public, you can deploy simulations as much a 10 milion CFD cells. This can easily be done on the cloud without making use of local resources. It's all done on an interface via a web browser. There's also an active community available public projecs and tutorials.
CONS: Certain crucial simulation features are missing. These include finite elements and structural models. But as indicated by the company, these will come to fruition soon. What's more, utilizing an intermittent/slow internet can hamper productivity. Companies who have limited internet access could struggle using the platform.
I can ramp things up with ease thanks to this platform.
