Veeam Review

PROS: Our organization was already using a tool for backup, but it was for our physical machines and not for our virtual ones. We got this tool specifically for that purpose and I can say that it has been a good decision on our part. I haven't encountered any difficulty when it comes to using it. No files have ended up corrupted or lost. That's really something more people should appreciate since it's happened quite a number of times with previous tools I've used. I was also very impressed with the recovery feature for VMs, since it basically allowed me to come up with a VM from just a backup point.

CONS: There are a couple of things that I think can be improved. I've always encountered a bottleneck when it comes to NAS boxzes, and I think if I could back up the same NAS with physical machines everything will be finished at a faster rate. The other thing I've had a problem with is not having certain folders be included in a backup. If there is a way to do that, I haven't figured it out. I'd like to see improvements with regards to these two things in future versions of this tool.

PROS: When it comes to backing up databases, operating sustems, virtual machines, and servers, I don't think there's anything better than this tool. I've been able to use this tool to automate the replication of data recorvery sites.

CONS: There have been moments when the simulation processes have not been able to perform a task. I think this is something they can improve on in future versions.

PROS: I love how easy this tool was to implement, and how easy it is to use when it comes to the creation of tape jobs, replication jobs, and backup jobs. I like how it has helped us out with backing up our numerous virtual machines, and how easily it can copy backups to a different location. It even gives us tape backup, which I really appreciate.

CONS: I have encountered some difficulty replication when there isn't as much space on the hard disk drive. But other than that, this tool has been working really well for me.

PROS: I think when it comes to tools for automated backups, this one takes the cake. I like th various features made available to me, and how easy it is to schedule a backup. I even get notified about finished processes via email. It doesn't take up a lot of space in the system and implementing it and configuring it couldn't be easier. I also really appreciate how it allows me to check on the backup process as it is happening.

CONS: While I'm really happy with this tool, I have to say that the price can be a little off-putting. It's a bit expensive, and i can see small businesses choosing not to purchase this because of the price tag.

PROS: We've been using another solution aside from this one, and I have to admit that this one is user-friendly, as well as simple to set up and configure. Best of all, it isn't as constly when compared to the similar tool we're using.

CONS: Our business hasn't been using this for very long, but I have to say that so far we haven't had any problems with it. It has handled every restoration job we've given it admirably well.

PROS: i think there are a lot of things to lile about this tool. For one thing, I can easily see the backup process as it is happening. The software is very easy to use even for tech newbies, and implementing it has also been a breeze. I also like that they email you a notification once a backup process has been completed. There are a number of features that I find really useful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to other people.

CONS: If there's one thing that I don't like, it's the fact that this tool is a bit on the expensive side. Other than that, there isn't anything about it that I can really complain about.

PROS: It has really made my work easier. With the added features such as the Scaleout backup, I can now eliminate some of the extra work or tasks I had to put in due to the limitations that come with the VMware. It is possible to backup data in a location that is different from my main server and VCenter. With such flexibility fin securing data, I have nothing to complain about. At the end of the day, I am assured that my file servers are well taken care of in case of anything that would result to the damage of the servers. Another good thing about the Veeam is that it integrates well with VMware which compliments to its function.

CONS: It has problems that I would like to point out. Despite its dedication to make sure that file servers are backed up and disaster recovery is well taken care of, it seems to be slow when you are dealing with larger files. It proved to be difficult to increase that speed of replication even when I used a larger bandwidth. Apart from that, there is no way to reduce the RAM the Veeam is utilizing while backing up data into the system. As a result, it takes all the space for other operations which can be disappointing. Also, it lacks adequate information on how to deal with minor issues that you experience while using this tool. It would be better if it was well documented to help users solve such issues on their own.

PROS: With the Veeam your data is secure. Apart from backing up data on the go, you will be able to restore it the way you want. You might want to restore the entire file servers or a single file server or an item from the backup files, this tool provides that. It has a large storage unit for the backed up files. This means that you can store as much files as you want and guarantee their safety. The backup is also encrypted to help you keep your data secure from external users. It helps to compress data and files such that when you add more, it will find space in your backup. The restoration is instant which adds to the value of your operations and thus a plus.

CONS: I am finding it hard to point out something that I did not like about this product. Probably it may be that there is nothing wrong or I did dislike about it. It is a top tool of its kind as it offers seamless support for all your data and disaster recovery problems. If you want to recover data or files you have lost, it is readily available to offer you with that service. All files that have been backed up are secure and the encryption of the backup gives you assurance of security. It is also flexible in a way that you can restore files according to your current need, be it the entire service or a single server file.

PROS: It helps to replicate file servers into the Hyper V servers. When it comes to restoration of the servers in case of the system going down, it is fast and reliable. I can also restore the whole of the VM and get back to business in no time. The replication of the copies on VM can be done both onsite and offsite. With the latter, I am able to define a reliable disaster recovery backup for my business. I can choose which files or servers to restore once the main server goes down. This is possible within a few minutes and thus you do not have to wait for hours to restore your servers.

CONS: The process of replication can sometimes be annoying especially when it fails. Although the process is automated, when it fails to replicate the copies, you have to go through multiple and complicated steps to start the process again. This can be difficult especially if you have never encountered such an issue before. It would be better if the process to restart the replication exercise was easier. On the same note, for the files that failed to replicate, the system does not clean then up automatically, which means that you have to learn how to clean up those failed files before you can restart the process.

PROS: It is all efficient when it comes to taking good care of data. From installation to use, it is simple and offers better user experience as compared to similar products in the market. When it comes to how flexible this tool is, it beats all as it can backup data and help with disaster recover functionalities. The speed is where you want it to be. You can back up your data and restore it within a short period. Most of the times it takes minutes just to restore data and that is where you find Veeam to be reliable. The Remote Console of the tool is without doubt one of the best features the product has. It allows you to work on a computer without the need to connect to the server which is amazing.

CONS: It is actually a total package product for your backup solutions. When it comes to giving your data the needed support in case where the server is down or there is disaster which calls for the restoration of the entire or part of the file servers, Veeam gives you that support and more. However, initially, we had problems with the lack of support in terms of backups for the physical machines. This was in the previous version of the tool but with the latest 9.5 version, I understand they have included this feature which makes this tool a complete package to invest in.

PROS: It is simple to set up and use and thus you do not need a lot of time in training even for a new user. The backup feature is seamless and offers a flexible way to back up your data. When it comes to kick starting your VM, this tool offers a suitable environment from the backup media. It is also compatible with the windows server 2012 which adds to its efficiency when backing up data. As a result, you will be able to make room for more data, which adds to the functionality of the product. Veeam is what you need if you want to attain better and more reliable backup solutions.

CONS: As expected, no software application will come out perfect. The same case with Veeam, it has some downsides on how it works. When you are loading large files, the time to load into the system can be long. It delays the backup process, which can delay operations on the same. Also, for the customer support, it is not as we would have expected. It is good but they could do better. The reason for this may be because they do not have customer representatives based in the USA. All in all they respond to queries when you send a ticket, within a convenient amount of time.

PROS: The three things I really like about this tool is its rate of data compression, how it can perform that data compression in a snap, and how easy this tool is to configure. It has made my work life flow much more smoothly.

CONS: I do wish that future versions of this tool would have an option for high availability. As of right now, everything is dependent on the replication of the tools configuration database.

PROS: Although we did not set up the product by ourselves, it has proven to be reliable in terms of use. The interface is simple which gives users the ability to quickly navigate around the features it has to offer. This adds to its simplicity of use in general. We have the ESX and Veeam integrates well with it which adds to how efficient we utilize the tool. It helps us to manage all our virtual machines and hosts in a single location and thus effective on that part. In short, we have had a great experience with this product as it has made out work easier altogether.

CONS: It all good when you have everything at your fingertips. Although it has a simple interface and it is easy to use, we needed training to get started right away. Due to this, we had to consult their systems engineer to guide us on how to utilize this product. The learning material provided by the engineer was too broad to the extent that we could not get the hang of all the things at once. We resulted to making calls to the support team for help with where we experienced issues. In future, it would be better if they had an easier way to learn or train the new users. Also, it would be nice if the integration with ESX would be more reliable than it already is.

PROS: It has come off as a reliable restoration and backup tool. When it comes to restoring your servers after they have crashed, you need a tool that understands the nature of your work. As an administrator, this product is a must have. It takes into consideration that servers are prone to breakdown or crash at any time and thus prepares you for this. Such disasters can happen and as an administrator you can gear up with the Veeam availability suite and take over to restore your virtual machines. It has allowed me to fully restore servers and also mails within a short period of time.

CONS: It is all good once you get started with this product. In terms of the things that I disliked about tool, there is very little or no that is worth mentioning. It brings results and offers you a conducive environment on which you can back up and set up a disaster recovery system. It is quick in backing up and recovering of file servers. However, I have a little problem with how the wordings are put within the system. It can be confusing where you may think you are not doing the right thing. It would be better if such wordings were improved for smooth operation of the product.

PROS: The system is easy to use and operate. You can upload a VM snapshot with ease for a single item and also for multiple items. Apart from that, it is easy to restore the files or items you have backed up in the system. The good thing about Veeam is that you can choose which specific files to restore or simply restore the entire system or server. It can restore SQL and also exchange depending on what you want to recover from the lost data. It is possible to customize the product depending on how fast you want the files to be backed up. This will help to save time and effort. You will also be notified if any of the files is not backed up into the system so that you can go back and correct that error for efficiency.

CONS: It has issues just like any other tool out there in the market. Luckily they are minor, which means that we still get out the best out of the Veeam Availability Suite. I had problems with the exchange backup process where the databases connected to the system fail at times. When this happens, the entire process shuts down and you have to start all over again. Such failures only occur with the backups of exchange. With consistent failure of the process, you spend a lot of time restarting it, which can be annoying and time consuming. It would be better if such failures could be minimized during the backing up of exchange.

PROS: It gives you more comfort and relaxation knowing that you have everything in place in the case of a disaster on your server. The backup feature is seamless and offers a secure location to back up all of your data. With the new ease of the 9.5 version of the product, the backup process has been increased by 75% which is convenient on my part as compared to the previous version. The customer support is also highly responsive to problems we face while using this product. Over the time I have been using it, I have been able to learn a lot from the support team.

CONS: Although it offers seamless support for our backup problems, we experience issues when it does not backup all the files. It does not provide a report on the files which were not backed up or there is no way of telling which files were missed during the process. This leaves us in the dark and we found out days or weeks later that a particular file or folder was not backed up. Due to this, we are forced to manually scale through the folders to find out which folder was not backed up. This takes time and it is also cumbersome which delays the response time on our part.

PROS: It has a desirable view on the monitor. You can generate reports on the data or on a certain category of data in graphical reports. We have seen this to be better than what vCenter has to offer. With Veeam, it helps to improve the visibility of your data through the reports and also the user interface. It is simple for any user to view and make a conclusion on the performance of the data. Apart from that it alerts you on the various statuses of your data. For example, when you are supposed to back up or when you want to generate the graphical reports of that data.

CONS: Initially we had problems when it came to integrating the VeeamOne and the Veeam B&R. the license keys offered for both did not work well to help those two products be compatible. This delayed every process of making the two products work hand in hand. It was a frustrating experience as we could not get value for our efforts and investment. It proved to be difficult to try and bring those two to work with the help of the license keys. Luckily, the technical team later resolved this problem and everything is in check at the moment.
