What is ActiveCollab?

ActiveCollab is an integrated project management and collaboration tool that combines task management, time tracking, and billing into one easy-to-use and well-designed app. It is highly configurable and rich in planning and organizational tools that streamline or automate your processes up to getting paid, for instance, by linking time records with invoicing and a payment gateway right within the system for more accurate billing.

The solution helps you organize your projects, tasks and files in one place, so your teams are on the same page right off the bat. You can choose from task lists, kanban board and timeline view with task dependencies and automatic rescheduling, recurring tasks and batch editing, among others, to map your goals and milestones.

PROS: I love the interface, and the updated version ActiveCollab 5, there is a huge improvement over AC4. The platform is similar with Basecamp, but Active Collab has more features than Basecamp, such as: invoicing, estimates and modules that help you to expand your collaboration with Slack.

CONS: I don’t like the setup. Also, the system has many issues with customization, you cannot customize colors without redoing the portions of the system. Additionally, I have some issues with email systems with AC5.

PROS: Active Collab, offers flexibility and options for every project we need. Different members of the team can keep track of what’s going on with the tasks and projects. I love the desktop timer, makes our work easier to track time to a specific project.

CONS: We don’t like the new updates and the new ActiveCollab so we changed the entire system.

PROS: ActiveCollab is true to its name – it helps my team actively collaborate with ease. Communication within my company is made even easier with this amazing solution.

CONS: I think the software is good, but it needs some improvements. Adding some tabs would be perfect for making some functions easily accessible. It can make communication among team members, especially to remote staff, a lot faster and easier.

PROS: I like how you can turn your focus on other things once you get to put the details and reminders on the app, as it will notify you at your set time through email if there’s a task to be done at hand.

CONS: My problem with this app is its notification tasks, given that it is dependent on the project assigned to you, it still sometimes fail to send you emails for tasks that cross over projects.

PROS: What I really like about the software is how it made it easy for me as a project manager to track progress, all thanks to its Activity tab. Because the Activity tab lets you see what each individual team member has been doing and how the project has been progressing, it is easier to plan and forecast with regards to ongoing and future projects. As an overall system, it's also very user-friendly and I didn't find the learning curve to be steep.

CONS: One area that I think this software could really improve upon is customization options, specifically when it comes to the views got individual team members.

PROS: I think the best thing about this software is how it makes tasks simpler to accomplish. It helps me do this by letting me take project information and group them, so I can look at just one location to find the data that I need. We've also been able to effectively cater to the needs of our clients because the tool is effective when it comes to managing projects. All of these have helped me to personally finish more tasks and allowed the company to better plan when it comes to projects.

CONS: While it's an effective tool, its menu could be more user-friendly and direct. I don't always have the time to go through basic things and simple commands, and sometimes adjustments need to made immediately. If they improve this, it really would be better for me and my time management.

PROS: Collaborating with clients and managing projects become seamless with ActiveCollab. It outperforms other software due to its flexibility and ease of use when managing projects. It even allows us to communicate with clients while limiting what they can access and view in our data. And since ActiveCollab is integrated with Quickbooks, time tracking, invoicing, and billing is made easier. Moreover, customer support really considers our needs. We have suggested a couple of functionalities, and it’s good that they included them later on the new version.

CONS: The license version should give more options on how we want to use it, particularly on the aspect of adding users. Instead of subscribing to a new level and paying more on it, we wish we could just add users and pay for it while remaining on the same subscription level.

PROS: Our business isn't a particularly large one, so we don't necessarily know about project management techniques like agile or scrum. It's a testament to this software's user-friendliness that our employees were able to easily grasp it. With it, we've been able to implement a system that has been a great help to our company as it continues to grow.

CONS: I don't think the Google integration works as well as it should because I found it unnecessarily difficult to login using it.

PROS: We started using it for our teams to work closely together, but we found out we could invite our clients inside the platform and use it to manage their custom-priced orders. It has become an internal and external collaboration space.

PROS: What we like most about ActiveCollab is its outstanding capability to organize projects in multiple set-ups and create notes, files, subtasks, etc. It gives us the liberty to assign deadlines for each task category. Simply amazing!

CONS: I have this preference that when I sort projects, I want to place them accordingly for easy access and reference. However, ActiveCollab lacks this function.

PROS: We have more integrated collaboration with ActiveCollab. It's way easier now for our remote teams in Asia to keep tabs of their colleagues in Europe, all the while we at the headquarters in CA are updated. There's good integration with a variety of chat tools, so we're flexible in case an app is glitchy, we can quickly set up an option. Our communication is in one place, so it helps a lot with transparency as well.

CONS: It got the collaboration and communication needs covered, there isn't really much you can complain about the software. So far I haven't got the chance to use support since everything runs smoothly.

PROS: We work hard to meet deadlines and impress our clients a level of professionalism when it comes to delivering our promises. That was difficult at first because, as with any project, a delay on one part sends a ripple effect to the entire project. What the software brings to us is the level of tracking; we can adjust, re-adjust and deploy contingencies when one piece got delayed. We set the rules so that ActiveCollabe notifies us for triggers, and many times what could have been a difficult process to plot the sequence of impact is now as simple as waiting for the notification in your inbox. It greatly helps us keep to our goals and keep our integrity when it comes to punctuality.

CONS: Chat support can be improved. Chat is supposed to fast track customer service.

PROS: The task feature, the files tab and the discussion tab are the best aspects for me for this project.

CONS: Changing calendars make it difficult to move out tasks all at one time a set number of days. Its not as simple as moving everything out 5 days some tasks might need to move out just 3 days, others 7 days, so the bulk edit doesn't solve for that.
