What is Microsoft Outlook?

Microsoft Outlook is an email organizer with a built-in calendar and other tools that help people communicate and stay on top of things. This premium application from Microsoft also has a built-in Skype so users remain connected with their contacts through chat, voice and video without leaving the platform.

With Outlook, users can remain focused on the most important things with an inbox where essential emails from one or more accounts are stored. This allows them to order and manage their priorities.

Additionally, Outlook can integrate with a number of partner apps and services, extending its use and allowing users to manage different aspects of their lives within the software itself.

Ordered Priorities

With Outlook, users can focus on the most important emails with the help of the Focused Inbox. This is where all the communications from different accounts marked important are forwarded to so they can be given immediate attention. This way, users can look at other emails at their convenience.

Highlighted Plans

Outlook makes certain users do not miss flights, trips, and appointments. The software’s calendar places itineraries in focus to remind users and to make them accessible for review.

Moreover, keeping appointments is also made easy with Outlook. The application highlights the dates when meetings are supposed to occur and with a click, users get the details to properly ready themselves.

Effortless Collaboration

Within Outlook, users can work together seamlessly with their colleagues. The software comes with tools that enable users to efficiently attach files from cloud storage services like Google Drive and Dropbox.

Moreover, Outlook affords users the ability to process Office files such as Word documents directly from the inbox. This adds to users’ productivity and lets them stay on top of things while they are working on different tasks.

Mobile Experience

Outlook is not just for Windows PCs and MacBooks. The software can be downloaded as native apps for Android, iOS, and Windows mobile devices. Modifications made on mobile are synced to the desktop version and vice versa so users remain ultra-organized no matter which device they are on.

Integrated Productivity

Outlook has numerous partner apps and services like Paypal that extend the use of the applications. These allow users to manage bookings, notes, finances, and more inside the software that lets them increase their productivity.

Skype Conversations

Outlook users do not have to open the dedicated Skype software when they need to speak with their contacts through chat, video call, or voice call. The application has a built-in Skype so users can smoothly navigate between the two services in one window.

PROS: I've been using a lot of Microsoft products. I like how consistent the UI is. Similar menus appear in the same areas. The Help menu is handy if you happen to be a newbie. Seek out what you need help in and a possible solution is available.

CONS: I can't think of anything negative with. Except maybe for its pricing. You get the same web-hosted solution for personal use without charge. For newbies, I can sense how Outlook involves learning a lot of things. You don't have to make use of its advanced functionality though unless you really want to.

It automates some tasks that make organizing your emails easier. I also love the calendar notifications! The best part is the email recalling! This comes in handy if you sent an email to the wrong contact.

CONS: They could improve their spam detection because some spams do not automatically go to the spam folder. I think they could also improve on the web application, particularly on the search feature.

PROS: The thing that I love with Outlook is how it lets you organize e-mails, tasks, calendars, and just about anything else to help you make it through the day. You have the ability to create calendar invites for others (with or without Outlook). All that's required is an e-mail address. How Outlook seamlessly blends with its Office products makes things so much easier in business.

CONS: One thing that's insane with Outlook (compared to its competitors) is that e-mails remain stuck in outbox. It appears to be happening more frequently than it ought to be. I couldn't figure out why this keeps happening. I'm pretty sure Microsoft has some kind of an algorithm to purposely make this a problem for each version released.

PROS: What I adore with Outlook is its user-friendly UI. I can make a number of folders on the left in sorting out e-mails. In addition, I have filters that help organize e-mails into certain folders. I like having the search bar on the top right since it easily lets me find an e-mail if I happen to have no clue which folder it was sent to. A majority of functions that I use frequently are situated at the top portion of the program.

CONS: At times, the program tends to get disconnected from my account. I frequently have to key in my login and then wait for e-mails to successfully download and sync. This can be annoying. At times, I'm not even sure if I got the right person's e-mail. I'd have to try typing it on the "to" bar.

PROS: I'd love to look into my messages from other e-mail accounts/sources in a one location while keeping things compartmentalized. I like its calendar feature. It's great because it can easily sync with the calendar stored in my smartphone. I love how you can preview attachments/messages without opening any e-mail. I also like the way their homepage is setup.

CONS: It can be difficult at times in setting up and linking other e-mail accounts to Outlook. Outlook may not be the one to blame. I don't favor the Favorites area located on the left portion of the pane. I find them rather redundant compared to the other options on the lower right portion. I'm still trying to get the hang of it as well as the process of adding accounts.

I'm able to set away message whenever I'm on vacation. I won't have to worry about people not receiving a response.

Ease of Use

Published on: 06.01.2018 Company Size: More than 100 Employees Industry: Information Technology

PROS: The maturity of this product can be described with one word: integration. Back then, Microsoft understood that scheduling, messaing, and contact management are linked and depenedent on each other for carrying out everything you need in organizing connections, interaction, and calendars. Outlook grew up and it became Microsoft's critical component in their Office platform. They even made Outlook as a premimum component within the cloud. This makes it capable in competing against Yahoo, G-Mail, and other platforms that are cloud-based.

CONS: Even with Microsoft doing whatever they could in making Outlook the best, they've still left out certain integration components within their very own software. Windows Calendar and Contacts provide lighter versions of managing fata that certain users can carry out. When the same users make a decision to dive into Outlook, a lot of challenges present themselves in migrating Windows apps directly into Outlook. There are solutions to the problem, but a typical user will have a difficult time transitioning.

Creating e-mails has never been this simple. If you want to include someone in your list from your own network, just push a few keyboard buttons, and you're done.

CONS: At the moment? Nothing to hate. I love everything it's offering.
