What Problems Will Stream Check Solve?

1) A commercial driver is pulled over for a roadside inspection and the authorities request proof that the vehicle is compliant and roadworthy.

Dave is out on a regular delivery route in his truck. As he drives down the road he is flagged down by the inspection team for a roadside inspection. Dave knows that if he doesn’t pass the inspection he won’t be authorised to continue driving the vehicle, and his route will be seriously delayed. The officer inspects the vehicle and asks to see Dave’s walkaround check results for the past few weeks.

Feature: Historical inspections available via the driver app. Inspection history is stored in a secure, cloud-based system for as long as you need it, giving you a clear paper trail for inspections and defect management on every vehicle. The past two weeks of inspections are available offline in the driver app, so the driver can prove their compliance and get back on the road quickly

2) A Driver hasn’t completed their daily walkaround check properly

One morning in January, Paul has a very early start for his delivery run. It is dark and cold, and he only drove the van yesterday – he’s sure there can’t have been any further defects since then – so Paul turns up the heating in the truck cab and quickly ticks off all the inspections as complete before departing for his run.

3) A minor defect is discovered in a daily walkaround check, but it doesn’t need to be resolved right away

When completing her daily walkaround check one morning, Marion notices a tiny chip in the windscreen. She has a lot of deliveries to make today, and a tiny crack like that can always be fixed later. “Nothing to worry about”, she thinks and departs for her delivery run.

The next day, the van is driven by Joe, who is running late and doesn’t look very closely at the windscreen when he completes his checks, ticking it as fine and moving on. Nobody notices or reports the chip in the windscreen until it starts to get bigger. And bigger. And bigger. The next time Marion drives the van she notices that the chip is now a large crack. “Somebody will have reported that to maintenance by now,” she thinks, and marks the windscreen as usable on her walkaround check sheet.

Once a defect is logged in the app, it won’t disappear or be forgotten about, as defects are tracked from discovery to resolution, with a clear chain of command and even after the defect is resolved historical records are available. This ensures that even minor defects are recorded, reported and resolved before they become a major problem

A tiny chip in the windscreen can be fixed by a garage in a few minutes and the vehicle is on its way. A bigger crack – say a couple of inches – will probably take a little more work – the vehicle might be off the road for the afternoon. A completely smashed windscreen, though, makes the vehicle completely unusable until it’s fixed – not to mention the serious risk of accident or injury if a windscreen smashes while a driver is on the road.
