ActiveBatch from Advanced Systems Concepts is an enterprise job scheduling and workload automation solution. It consolidates and centralizes control over enterprise processes, including IT, data analytics, business process management, file and document storage, infrastructure, and more. As an all-in-one workload automation solution, ActiveBatch integrates processes, applications, and scripts in one convenient location. This allows the reduction of errors and idle time as users and departments transition from one operation to the next.
ActiveBatch was first developed as a scheduling application for ASCI’s XLNT scripting language. It has since become a standalone, flagship product for ASCI. Further iterations on its capabilities allowed it to leverage cloud and distributed computing across multiple platforms, subsequently taking the name ActiveBatch. Today, ActiveBatch offers real-time monitoring and management of real-world business operations combined with background IT processing across different platforms, industries, and ecosystems.
Show MoreActiveBatch is an application that allows you to streamline and optimize your workflow, ensuring no time is wasted from operation to operation.
Layered, architectural approach to automation
Siloed IT automation is a thing of the past. Organizations used to automate and track IT and other business processes with department-or company-specific applications. This means companies’ tools may only work with the same software architecture that supports it. With ActiveBatch, however, it’s cross-platform, allowing you to manage any type of process—with multiple instances—in one single platform.
Accelerated workflows
Instead of coding scripts all the time when automating operations, the ActiveBatch Integrated Jobs Library accelerates job automation. With it, you can build workflows in a fraction of the usual time. Core to this is ActiveBatch’s Job Steps, which are like building blocks for workflows. These come production-ready, so you don’t need to write and test scripts all the time when you need to automate a job.
Dynamic resource optimization
ActiveBatch can reduce overhead costs associated with running tasks. The user can adapt to real-time demands by assigning Dynamic Queue Characteristics. This instructs ActiveBatch to look for the appropriate server that can run the task as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Plus, the application’s Smart Queue and Heuristic Queue Allocation can provision and allocate the number of machines and computing power to run workloads as they are needed, eliminating machine idle time.
Plus, with the software’s built-in Machine Load View, you have a bird’s eye view of how ActiveBatch processes and tasks use the system’s resources—and plan accordingly.
Intelligent analytics
ActiveBatch allows you to cut to the heart of the matter with relevant, accurate analytics. While it’s easy to collect data these days, interpreting the data takes a special kind of tool. ActiveBatch fills this role. You can track data in real-time and get alerts, generate reports, and manage and monitor SLAs. Packed with business intelligence features, you can visualize data dynamically and in multiple formats, too.
Open API
ActiveBatch offers a Service Library, supporting REST, WSDLS, .NET Assemblies, command lines, and so on, which makes for near-universal integration and connectivity. Using the Service Library, you can create jobs that are associated to a particular API. This means you can support other applications, even hardware, other than what comes out of the box, allowing truly flexible workflow automation, with whatever software you’re using.
Show MoreProblem #1: Too many workload automation tools that usually don’t work together
Solution: ActiveBatch consolidates the number of automation and scheduling tools in the IT environment, cutting expenses and reducing complexity. It eliminates scripting through prebuilt, pretested, production-ready Job Steps for no-code workflow assembly, while supporting existing script investments. ActiveBatch’s Service Library allows developers to incorporate literally any tool or technology with an API, making for a future-proofed automation framework.
Problem #2: Limited visibility and operational bottlenecks
Solution: ActiveBatch provides operations teams with a unified solution for business and IT requirements. This allows operators to monitor and troubleshoot systems and dependencies from a single point of control. It employs SLA management, extensive alerting, robust reporting, and automated troubleshooting and remediation to improve operational efficiency.
Problem #3: Sub-optimal usage of virtual and cloud assets
Solution: The Integrated Jobs Library includes dozens of steps for industry-leading virtualization and cloud resource providers including Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, VMware, and more. These prebuilt integrations allow users to provision and maintain resources from multiple providers with ease.
Industry-first features like Managed Queue make for seamless resource provisioning and workload deployment on any integrated provider. It scales cloud resources to meet workload requirements in real-time. For example, IT may require 12 machines for executing payloads at peak times but only require 4 machines otherwise. Smart Queue will automatically provision the 8 additional systems as they are needed to avoid wasted spend on idle cloud resources.

The rational thing to undertake is to take note of the numerous critical aspects that need research including critical features, pricing, skill levels of staff members, company size, etc. After which, you must perform your product research thoroughly. Read some of these ActiveBatch review articles and explore the other applications in your list in detail. Such comprehensive product research ascertains you avoid mismatched applications and select the system which has all the function your company requires to achieve growth.

PROS: I like the truths that I understand how pretty stable Successful Batch has become when I can sleep peacefully at night! It's like Automation's iPhone & Swiss Army Knife! If it is electronic then it can be automated by Active Batch! Since 2014, we have used it and it has enabled my organization to grow rapidly and to not stress about increased workflow. Under increased activity, ActiveBatch never bogged down. It just manages whatever we put at it. It is one of the greatest tools we use and it's phenomenally scales! Enhancements too are free of worries!
CONS: There is a great learning experience with ActiveBatch that in the start helps to make it somewhat difficult, but once you understand the basic principles it's like the smartest system is turned on! I can't really come across any despises.
The least favorable review
PROS: Ability to track jobs in a timely order and not to run a job until another is completed.
CONS: The high availability is somewhat uneven and often needs action to fail back to original. For a single engineer, setting up and keeping work would be a full-time job. I 'd recommend the 'active batch' person becoming a low-level tech. Thus this person becomes more aware of the local work situation while manufacturing the Active batch Jobs.

Ease of Use
PROS: Using and repeat jobs relatively quickly once you get familiar. Flexible, with plenty of integration possibilities with other frameworks, platforms, and scripting languages. Jobs can be planned, triggered, and much more. The company is structured, and it is equally seamless and safe to install and upgrade.
CONS: Must start with a slight learning curve, not all choices are fully innate. Template somewhat confusing about how agents work and so on, versus workload supervisors. As an example, we've had some jobs that work great through SQL Server but fail to use AB, with no justified reason why. Help is usually very effective and fixes problems, but the SQL Server example above confused them a bit. Coaching is very expensive, wish they had more free on board, especially as the first boarded.

PROS: Use and recreate employment opportunities fairly easily once you get familiar. Efficient, with plenty of extra features with other structures, sites, and text editor. Jobs can be planned, prompted, and much more. The organization is consolidated, and it is equally effortless and safe to set up and update.
CONS: To start with a slight learning curve, not all options are completely intuitive. Structure pretty misleading with how operators operate and so on, versus workforce supervisors. As an example, we've had some works that work great via SQL Server but fail to use AB, with no justified reason why. Assist is usually very beneficial and fixes issues, but they were a little confused by the above illustration of the SQL Server example beyond. Coaching is very costly, hope they would have more free on platform, particularly after they first boarded.

PROS: Several of my best things about ActiveBatch are the ability to create custom plans, write custom scripts for programming, and do self-upgrades.
CONS: The Facility to Report left something to be desired. Installing and configuring is a little tedious, and the collection of automated articles is poor.
Actual work and technical failure are not an issue anymore.

PROS: I do not witness any potential mistakes after using ActiveBatch. Which, if performed manually, I might well experience.
CONS: At the moment I do use version 11 of ActiveBatch. The one that I despise about this edition is that you can not have the asset window open as well as the work actions accessible at the same moment when you need to see the features of the task.

PROS: The capability to combine tasks/plans with our Data Warehouse jobs from other apps which decreased episodes and enhanced timeliness of data. We use the AB tools to perform processes for Informatica PowerCenter, Tableau, Alteryx, and ICEDQAdmin tasks, and SQL for storage. The skill to conceptually create job addictions is very beneficial.
CONS: The Support features are in my view very minimal. I would like to see many more illustrations with the included AIX / Linux equipment. Often, the integrated documentation may be streamlined.

PROS: Numerous different skills to timeline. Information and connections of the process item are kept in a database system that can enable you to incorporate with other instruments, but ActiveBatch does not promote that method. The documents were strongly kept. ActiveBatch people have your documents on the open platform enabling people to use it comfortably, your information doesn't make your product valuable. ActiveBatch software capabilities make it useful!
CONS: ActiveBatch as an Applications Software device which you can use for third party application but this would restrict you to an apps server, operate with obsolete Web technologies and discover that expertise that is usually kept hidden away.
ActiveBatch is a user-friendly software and has numerous work elements that make it very efficient.

PROS: Capacity to standardize the work and handle it in a single computer framework. If you can lay out the job, and almost any IT workflow. Simple to use actions in the Job Section. Additionally, waiting systems will operate like a myth to operate the employments in the pool of delays. Lately much developed to be easy to handle device reliability. The event organized will be in the Unix platforms in Windows and investigators. Programs are useful to put the business operation into the simplified process of control which tends to make it simple and fun to identify a load flow.
CONS: While several of the work steps are easily comprehensible, certain variables are not clear in the program in the best career details aid. The skillset ASCI given will need a variant-based filter.

PROS: Open source, communication humanist software enables us to simplify paper trail and track workers and process flows. Since it is a humanist word, we can exploit jobs that are published in a variety of languages, from python and bash to java and ruby. We can also handle things like responsive game plans, and seize all outcomes in a single place. We were able to rapidly launch new processes in the AWS cloud with ActiveBatch, organize electronic installations, and standardize our day-to-day management operations. By standardizing scheduled jobs from disparate sources into the ActiveBatch atmosphere, we have also been able to budget on the server. By launching deployment entities within each setting, we are able to distinguish employment by minimizing or eliminating bridge-environment traffic, boosting the protection. Since we've had problems where assistance was needed, trigger pullers have been rapidly provided the information to mentor us in the right direction. If that is not enough to fix the dispute, they've been rather effective in giving technical access via screen capture video conferences.
CONS: To run the scheduler software Windows is required. We 're mainly a Linux shop, so running Windows and MSSQL isn't suitable, but spinning on AWS and configuring for ActiveBatch was simple at all. In response, we had to authorize another attribute to operate IIS to support the Web Console for ActiveBatch. The largest producer wasn't easy for us, as we're not fully acquainted with IIS, but we were able to understand the instructions and get things set up relatively fast.

PROS: AB has a lot of functionalities. I have used it for about 1 year now and whenever I doubt if AB can do something, it often sure turned out it is. We use it for optimizing SSIS work, uploading files to SFTP servers, running ensure universal, handling encoding and formatting, and optimizing documentary methods to ensure we don't keep filling operating systems. Overall, I think it's a great tool. You can read about my opinion on the drawbacks in the next question, but in general, if you have a ton of jobs to manage or automate, it's a tool that I would recommend.
CONS: The user interface is a bit eccentric and requires some time to get used to it. Some core elements can be somewhat slow and while assistance is often beneficial, some alternatives make little rational sense. The User interface makes it easy to create up finishing stimuli and strictures for your job or work schedules but getting a complete idea without having to dig into the assets of all your strategies and job opportunities can portray an inaccurate picture (I know this is due to errors in the View-> Map device). Value has recently changed significantly in my institution, but I genuinely don't think it's highly-priced to the point of except the chat.

CONS: It can be challenging to find any workers on the Regular Activity Computer unless you understand exactly how to handle work.
