SharePoint Review

SharePoint
Our score: 8.2 User satisfaction: 97%

What is SharePoint?

SharePoint is a Microsoft-hosted cloud service that empowers companies to store, access, share, and manage documented information from all devices.

The revolutionary power of SharePoint consists in the fact that it unites conventionally separate applications such as content management, enterprise social networking, business intelligence, workflow management, personal cloud, extranet, intranet, web content and workflow management.

Observed from the technical perspective, SharePoint enables browser-based collaboration and document management in a way that streamlines effectiveness and access to relevant data. At the same time, the platform represents an informational portal one could configure to run high-quality internet sites.
The platform was launched in 2013 in order to serve Office 365’s distribution purposes, but it evolved to a role model cloud software used by many third party vendors.

Overview of SharePoint Benefits

Microsoft’s SharePoint is definitely the most successful content management software of our time, used by almost 75% of Fortune 500 companies. The number doesn’t come as a surprise, since it we’re discussing a program that cuts costs, enhances collaboration, and eliminates IT associated risks at the same time.

The first thing to appreciate about SharePoint is customization, meaning that you can edit components and create your own custom applications to suit your branding.

SharePoint is also recognizable by its Centralized Administration Console, used by managers to access basic operation features, adjust settings, restore information, monitor performance, and take advantage of the configuration wizards all in one place.

Collaboration is another indisputable benefit, due to the variety of collaborative features for internal/external communication which leads to improved business decisions and higher ROI rates.

SharePoint will also consolidate intranet, extranet, and internet sites, a procedure expected to amass considerable savings and development of advanced access methods. When consolidating sites, you can rely on the fact that SharePoint can operate seamlessly with any technology you’re already using, as for instance MS Exchange Server and MS Unified Communications.

Finally, SharePoint is a simple and well-integrated tool that protects the integrity of your data, and keeps it safe from unauthorized use. The advanced checkout procedure guarantees that the quality of your documents won’t be compromised, and allow you to restore their original state even after they’ve been edited.

The strongest reason why SharePoint is the leader of business collaboration is that it makes things easy. You won’t need a developer to handle implementation, and you’re not likely to require professional assistance to use the platform.

SharePoint Position In Our Categories

Because companies have distinct business demands, it is only rational they steer clear of picking an all-in-one, ideal system. Nonetheless, it is almost impossible to pinpoint such a software solution even among branded software systems.
The clever thing to do should be to make a list of the numerous significant factors that entail analysis including critical features, budget, skill aptitude of the users, business size, etc. After which, you must conduct your product research fully. Have a look at some of these SharePoint analyses and scrutinize each of the software options in your list more closely. Such well-rounded product research ascertain you take out unsuitable apps and buy the system which has all the benefits your company requires.

Position of SharePoint in our main categories:

TOP 200

SharePoint is one of the top 200 Collaboration Software products

TOP 50

SharePoint is one of the 50 File Sharing Software products

SharePoint is also listed in the following subcategories:

Since each company has particular business requirements, it is sensible for them to abstain from looking for a one-size-fits-all perfect software system. Needless to say, it would be futile to try to find such a platform even among popular software applications. The intelligent thing to do would be to catalog the various essential elements that need consideration such as key features, budget, skill levels of staff members, company size etc. Then, you should do your groundwork thoroughly. Read some SharePoint Collaboration Software reviews and check out each of the other apps in your shortlist in detail. Such exhaustive groundwork can make sure you discard ill-fitting platforms and zero in on the solution that offers all the features you need for business success.

PROS: We use SharePoint for improving internal communications. Great tool for posting company’ announcements and to keep the documentation in one place so they could be easily accessible to every department. I like the integration with Outlook Calendar because I’m able to share calendars and create calendar for community sign ups. I like that here I can find the information I need for my company such as vacation days.

CONS: Sometimes it takes too long for loading, and we cannot easily organize the files, it lack general buy-in, they could improve the alert system so it can be used by everyone. Also, I haven’t found it useful for digital marketers because it doesn’t offer tools for content management.

PROS: Microsoft is definitely number one tool for every kind of business. I love the new Sharepoint version. I can clearly say that the software is improved, updated and there are lot of useful features. It’s great tool for organizing and keeping track of all our documentation and staff management solutions.

CONS: The screens are all similar and we could easily make mistakes when it comes to setting up permission, lose column or preview the data. They could make this navigation more easy to use.

PROS: Organizing, arranging and sharing files has never been easier. SharePoint provides with real time collaboration and everyone within the team is allowed to edit documents. We can create folders for every department and we can even set permissions rights. We can easily share documents through the Sharepoint interface, we can add comments and track changes, and we can even display data.

CONS: It can be a little expensive for small organizations, we need to spend money on implementation and planning of the site. Also, the thing that I don’t like is that we need to use Internet Explorer if we want to move documents.

PROS: SharePoint allows us to archive all documents, schematics, procurement drawings, label files, machine programs, firmware and others, the good thing is that everything is in one place. We can even create a sub-folder under other folders. We are able to co-sign to sign off the documentation and to give permission to send requests. This tool allow us to add revisions, make notes and comments for every task and file we control within the system.

CONS: At first it was difficult to understand how to run this software but we managed to learn the ins and outs. I have some dislikes about this system: the interface is not updated, there are many options that are difficult to find, when I want to upload a file bigger than 10MB it takes some time, also removing folder is complex, it can be difficult to reassign tasks and when I want to change something about the tasks I need to delete and restart again.

PROS: I love how SP improves the collaboration. Users are allowed to work on same projects and documents at the same time. The system keeps archive of the documents and it keeps the name of those who made the changes. The security system within the tool is easy to use and I like the fact that the things are secure and hidden to users. The process of uploading, sending and downloading documents is easy and smooth. We often use the task list to keep track of the projects.

CONS: The fact is that this system allows lot of customization without some program knowledge skills, but the thing is that I’m not Net specialist and this makes it difficult for me to create some options and solutions for solving the problems.

Great thing is that I can access the data from anywhere, and I know that everything is securely stored and accessible.

CONS: I don’t know why but I am limited in using the SharePoint from my Mac. I cannot access the data like from a regular server, so I need to log in vie Microsoft 365 online and go through TeamSites. It’s time-wasting, because I need to edit a lot of files and then re-uploading the files online.

This is a product from Microsoft and offers great integrations with other Microsoft software, like Office. The good thing is that SP keeps track of the edit documents in a shared folder.

CONS: We had some issues with the documentation on SharePoint, because they cannot be edited by different people at once. Also, this program seems to work only with Internet Explorer, everyone in our office is using Chrome and we are frustrated when we need to use IE for this one reason.

FinancesOnline is available for free for all business professionals interested in an efficient way to find top-notch SaaS solutions. We are able to keep our service free of charge thanks to cooperation with some of the vendors, who are willing to pay us for traffic and sales opportunities provided by our website. Please note, that FinancesOnline lists all vendors, we’re not limited only to the ones that pay us, and all software providers have an equal opportunity to get featured in our rankings and comparisons, win awards, gather user reviews, all in our effort to give you reliable advice that will enable you to make well-informed purchase decisions.
