What is SharePoint?

SharePoint is a Microsoft-hosted cloud service that empowers companies to store, access, share, and manage documented information from all devices. The first place in this category is held by ShareFile which has a total score of 9.5/10 and is the winner of our Supreme Software Award for 2016. You can try out ShareFile for free here. You can also compare ShareFile with Sharepoint and see which one is better for your company.

The revolutionary power of SharePoint consists in the fact that it unites conventionally separate applications such as content management, enterprise social networking, business intelligence, workflow management, personal cloud, extranet, intranet, web content and workflow management.

Observed from the technical perspective, SharePoint enables browser-based collaboration and document management in a way that streamlines effectiveness and access to relevant data. At the same time, the platform represents an informational portal one could configure to run high-quality internet sites.
The platform was launched in 2013 in order to serve Office 365’s distribution purposes, but it evolved to a role model cloud software used by many third party vendors.

Overview of SharePoint Benefits

Microsoft’s SharePoint is definitely the most successful content management software of our time, used by almost 75% of Fortune 500 companies. The number doesn’t come as a surprise, since it we’re discussing a program that cuts costs, enhances collaboration, and eliminates IT associated risks at the same time.

The first thing to appreciate about SharePoint is customization, meaning that you can edit components and create your own custom applications to suit your branding.

SharePoint is also recognizable by its Centralized Administration Console, used by managers to access basic operation features, adjust settings, restore information, monitor performance, and take advantage of the configuration wizards all in one place.

Collaboration is another indisputable benefit, due to the variety of collaborative features for internal/external communication which leads to improved business decisions and higher ROI rates.

SharePoint will also consolidate intranet, extranet, and internet sites, a procedure expected to amass considerable savings and development of advanced access methods. When consolidating sites, you can rely on the fact that SharePoint can operate seamlessly with any technology you’re already using, as for instance MS Exchange Server and MS Unified Communications.

Finally, SharePoint is a simple and well-integrated tool that protects the integrity of your data, and keeps it safe from unauthorized use. The advanced checkout procedure guarantees that the quality of your documents won’t be compromised, and allow you to restore their original state even after they’ve been edited.

The strongest reason why SharePoint is the leader of business collaboration is that it makes things easy. You won’t need a developer to handle implementation, and you’re not likely to require professional assistance to use the platform.

Pros:
I like that this software has intuitive and understandable user interface. It is well-configured. I personally like the folder-structure feature. I like that it has access rules and controls add to the security of the documentation.

Cons:
The app may get slow. They could add some archive features. The search engine needs improvements because if you don’t know the exact name of the document then it can be hard to find it.

Pros:
We use SharePoint for improving internal communications. Great tool for posting company’ announcements and to keep the documentation in one place so they could be easily accessible to every department. I like the integration with Outlook Calendar because I’m able to share calendars and create calendar for community sign ups. I like that here I can find the information I need for my company such as vacation days.

Cons:
Sometimes it takes too long for loading, and we cannot easily organize the files, it lack general buy-in, they could improve the alert system so it can be used by everyone. Also, I haven’t found it useful for digital marketers because it doesn’t offer tools for content management.
