Subversion Review

PROS: I love how much control this program offers. It's been a lot easier to track what goes in into our products--plus find out who made the edits to specific versions and why. Branches are a lot more easy to follow too.

CONS: It's difficult to collate all of the branches in our folders without losing the data of what changes were made on the versions under it. It takes up a bit of space too, which can be quite a hassle if you needed just one file.

PROS: One can always rely on Subversion. We use this mostly for managing files and branching. It can easily highlight the differences between versions which I find very intuitive.

CONS: It is quite limited in its plugin options. Plus, the process of using it is not as streamlined as I want it to be. I've had to call out some developers in our team to tell them to follow our workflow for uniformity purposes.

PROS: I love how simple and easy to use this is. It's a lot better than GIT solutions.

CONS: It would be nice to enjoy a little more control of the settings.

PROS: I know that a lot of users prefer GIT now, but SVN is olden but golden. It's been here for close to two decades and it has impressively kept up with the times. There's still enough support for SVN these days too. There haven't been any issues with its server plus it doesn't lag too. I absolutely love the simplicity and ease of this tool.

CONS: SVN is not as accepted as GIT these days. It's almost impossible to change the file without overwriting the code too. Still, it makes me feel special to be using SVN instead of GIT.

PROS: I love Subversion because it gives us plenty of room to manipulate our data and graphic interface. My favorite is the TortoiseSVN which I use to create branches, commit, track edits, and revert edits to particular versions. It's also very simple to retrace our steps and view the versioning history of our files. I consider myself as a longtime user to this tool, and I can imagine myself using this down the road some more. I also think it's great that Subversion is constantly introducing updates to its system.

CONS: This is not exactly the easiest tool to work with. For one, merging files can result in some errors and even a few ommissions to our files. One has to be diligent in checking that all the codes have been properly merged and translated seamlessly into each other. Otherwise, Subversion will not recognize your versions and you'll lose your progress. So far, the only solution I've had to this issue is to manually check the codes and filters myself. Duplicates of files can happen quite often too so you'd need to go back and manually delete the dupe yourself.

PROS: Any team with more than 2 members need to use this program. It's very intuitive and easy to use. It's very easy to learn thanks to its visual representation of versions.

CONS: I know plenty of teams who prefer its competitors, but Subversion works perfectly fine for my needs.

PROS: I love how easy it had been to take this program off the ground ever since we started using it. We use a couple of its graphical user interface and it works well.

CONS: It was a little difficult to configure for multiple project accounts, but we're past this hurdle now.

PROS: I'm a writer by profession and we use MadCap Flare to keep our tasks organized. I love how Subversion integrates well with this tool. It keeps versions of the files I make so that I don't lose anything.

CONS: Branching in Subversion can be a little difficult to use. Plus, not everything is smooth-sailing with its MadCap Flare integration.

PROS: Subversion is a great tool for encouraging team members to be more accountable for their work. With it tracking who has made the latest changes, we can easily pinpoint who the involved party is. Plus, it is also good for retracing steps and changes done to a document.

CONS: I think it's great that we can restrict access to specific files and folders, but this restriction system often gets messed up. Not only that, but the preview section isn't showing properly too. uBerSVN can take a while to load as well. It often needs a hard refresh for it to run smoothly.

PROS: I stumbled upon Subversion out of convenience because somebody was already using this at work. I love how it comes with a manual that is rather complete and exhaustive in a good way. I use this for its most basic features. It's a free solution, TortoiseSVN, it is quite great too.

CONS: It's not really my problem, but I don't like how it's a requirement to set up a service for this. It's just bothersome that we have to go through said admin for us to file our tickets. For now, it doesn't do diffs for binary files though.

PROS: This is best utilized in a collaborative environment where files are shared and simultaneously worked on.

CONS: I've filed various tickets in the past and I'm often disappointed with how it gets resolved. I've had to figure out plenty of workarounds for each issue.

PROS: Subversion is such a big help in keeping track of the different versions of files in our system. I think it's great how it easily stores a history of all the changes that have been done to our documents. This makes it a lot easier to test out the different versions to verify which ones work and which ones don't. This foolproofs files as well in case of accidental deletion or editing of files. It doesn't matter what type of file you handle because Subversion will track its versioning history for you.

CONS: For some reason, shared versions of files take up double space in our system. I've also noted multiple duplicates and subfiles under ".svn" in our folders. I also find it tiresome to regularly force binary files to commit just to get it started. Whenever we run into issues, we need to manually tag each file as to whether they have been resolved or if its resolution is still pending. To top it all off, we can't easily backtrack from bad commits. All we can do is to save a different version, resulting in more files in the system.

PROS: The best thing about Subversion is that it allows me to work with a team while still maintaining autonomy over the aspects of a project that I am in charge of. I love how it notifies me whenever a file has been updated. This way, everyone collaborating on a project is aware of the latest version of a file. And yes, we can all work on the same file at the same time too. At the end of the day, we can simply merge our files together. And if we need to backtrack a bit, we can easily dig up the previous versions too. We've done this a couple of times and the novelty of tracking the changes and seeing how far a project has come still hasn't worn off.

CONS: I recommend that you try it out first. What doesn't work for me might not bother you at all. However, I would like to forewarn you that the versions of codes that are embedded in your meta-data cannot be tracked by Subversion.

PROS: This is the ultimate change and versioning tracking tool. Not only does it pledge transparency for all parties involved in a project, but it also sends out notifications to inform everyone whenever a file has been altered.

CONS: It takes a while for the folders to be cleaned up/ The only workaround we've found so far is to force run the files for it to refresh.

PROS: I didn't have any trouble learning Subversion. It has an interface flow that is very easy to follow.

CONS: So far, everything works perfectly fine.

PROS: What I like about Subversion is that it facilitates a smoother and more efficient workflow by color-coding. This way, I can easily check which ones still need to be checked in and which ones have been completed.

CONS: The program sometimes needs a hard refresh for us to get the latest version of a project. Other times, we'd have to completely remove the folder from our system and download it again. This can be quite a hassle.

PROS: This has been in the versioning field for some time now. If the length of time they've been in the business is not a testament enough of their reliability, then I'm here to tell you that Subversion is the real deal. It's a program that we constantly use in our office.

CONS: It doesn't have the most intuitive interface. You need to set aside enough time to learn each of its features.
