What is FaceTime?

FaceTime is a video messaging application developed to allow people to initiate and engage in video calls with their Apple devices. With FaceTime, Mac users can engage in a face to face conversation to people with a Mac computer, or to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. From a business perspective, Mac and iOS users can easily collaborate with each other, hold virtual meetings, or have one on one business discussions.

Overview of FaceTime Benefits

FaceTime is superior from other video messaging apps in terms of video quality. Images are sharper and clearer compared to popular alternatives as it can receive HD video calls at up to 720p on supported, Intel-based Macs. The app is already integrated within the latest Apple devices and for those who require setup, the process is fast and simple – just enter your Apple ID. Once ready, using FaceTime is very much as using a phone to call someone. Just look up your contact list and call the person you want to call using FaceTime.

Even if your FaceTime is not running, you can receive incoming calls without having to activate the app. Whether you are using a Mac, an iPhone, or an iPod, your friends and colleagues can easily reach you, check the status of your projects, updates, and vice versa.

PROS: I love that Facetime is so easy to use. You can access and use it on multiple Mac platforms, which increases its utility value. Plus, it is tidier than Skype as you can use its sync with iCloud to organize your work.

CONS: The major negative is you can communicate only with Apple users. Skype is more versatile and functional across different platforms and offers more advanced features. Facetime is more suitable for casual communication.
