Swiftype Review

The advanced search capabilities of Swiftype are excellent. It is using an advanced search algorithm, which provides search results and content in ways that adapt to the specific language or vernacular requirements of users.  This makes the application an alternative to Google Site Search.

The advanced search algorithm of Swiftype is comprised of language analysis tools. These tools have the capability to handle different forms and types of search queries, no matter how complicated they are. The language analysis tools offered by Swiftype are spelling correction, bigram matching, stemming, synonyms, and phrase matching.

When users type a word into the Swiftype search box, but they misspelled it;  Swiftype automatically corrects the spelling of that word. It shows search results that match the correctly spelled word.

Users will also be able to find relevant results, even if they type in words which should have a space between them. As an example, if a website is selling products which titles contain the phrase “high heels;” users who are searching for products by typing in “highheels” will be able to view the search results for the phrase “high heels.”

In case they type in the word “walk,” Swiftype will return the search results for the  words “walking” and “walked.” This means the application can provide search results based on root words, enabling users to find relevant results without necessarily adding prefixes or suffixes to words.

Swiftype can show search results when users type in only the synonyms of words. Hence, users who are searching for items using the word “jeans” can see the search results for the word “pants.” This example is applicable to a website that only uses the word “pants” in its product titles.

Moreover, Swiftype has the capability to place older content on the top of search results. This is made possible through phrase matching, wherein sets of words are identified and treated as a cohesive unit.

For instance, when users search for an old model of iPhone and type in the word “iPhone 3;” Swiftype generates results based on that exact phrase, even if the content for iPhone 3 was published on an earlier date. Hence, recently published content for new models of iPhone won’t prevent them in finding the specific model they want. This is very helpful in searching on websites, such as news websites, which prefer to give higher ranking for recently published content.

Swiftype also has an autocomplete search feature. Users will be able to view and find the items or content they are looking for instantly, while they are typing in words. It automatically pops up suggested search results, even before they type in a full query.

Moreover, Swiftype offers powerful search analytics.  Through this feature, users can identify what people are actually searching for on their website or online store. They will also be able to know where these people are from. The most popular items or content people are searching for can also be determined through its search analytics, including the number of times they clicked on the search results for those products and content.
