Stride is a chat and messaging as well as collaboration software that was re-engineered from what was formerly HipChat. Both the current and former product is from Atlassian, the company that brought us popular tools such as Trello, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. HipChat is still there but has been rebranded as a self-hosted team communication platform for enterprises. On the other hand, Stride is offered as a complete team communication solution that takes the best elements of HipChat, reinforced with smart features as well as natively hosted audio and video functionality.
Stride is positioned by Atlassian as a direct competitor and alternative to the hugely popular Slack. As such it has been equipped with new features aside from the normal chat and messaging functions offered by other similar software. One notable addition is the Actions and Decisions function where you can isolate and assign tasks as “to-do” messages, with completed actions posted so everyone in the chat room is aware. You can also isolate important decisions from conversations and save them for reference anytime.
Free and affordable plan. There are just two plans to choose from – a free one and another that goes for $3 per user per month. For all intents and purposes, even the freeware is enough for your team communication needs as it comes with unlimited users, group chat rooms, direct messaging, group video and voice meetings. It limits you to 5GB storage and 25K message history. The paid plan lifts all limitations and adds advanced functionality.
Do more, talk less. Stride’s Focus Mode function mutes all notifications and distractions, and lets you devote more hours on your work. But the system can still collect messages, decisions and assigned tasks (while you were in isolation), which you can review later on.
Instant audio or video meeting. Just a click away and you can turn your chat into audio or face to face video conferencing. You can quickly change a discussion into a presentation by sharing your screen from any video meeting.
Mark decisions and create/assign tasks. This nifty feature lets you allows you to mark chat as a decision and get back to it later if it has been completed. You also make tasks and assign them to persons in the chat room.
Collaborate and connect from any device. Stride supports any web-connected device and platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) and has mobile apps for Android and iOS, enabling team members to connect and collaborate anytime from any location on any device.
Integrate with hundreds of apps. Aside from offering deep integration with all the other apps in the Atlassian line up, Stride works with and supports hundreds (over 2,000 actually) of third party apps and services.
